Ideas to secure my new ladder?

I added this swim ladder to my platform this weekend and I'm trying to figure out a good way to conveniently keep it secure. It came with a velcro strap but that is going to get old in about 3 minutes. I think it might stay in the fold position without the velcro however I want to come up with something better.

There has to be some way to mount a latch or clasp in front of it. Any ideas?

Look in your local hardware store. Saw this foam rubber covered flexible wire and i have found many uses for it, sounds like something you could use.

Even my 275 pound sister has figured out a way to shamu/wally her way onto the swim step when getting out of the lake. We do this thing where she sort of bobs up and down with the assistance of the life jacket and then when she bobs upward, I pull on the lifejacket as she pulls her torso onto the swimstep. Works every time.

The above is true...I also take my elderly mother with me occasionally and she would definitley have a hard time getting into the boat from the lake, so she is just content to sit on the swimstep. I am not sure a ladder would help her. If you can't manage to somehow roll your torso onto the swim platform, then your legs also don't have the strength to push yourself up once you get a foot on the bottom rung.

I'll post some pic's tomorrow of my new latch system, My wife asked for a ladder so I put one on, I copied Kerlee's idea and had a machine shop build a new mounting plate and top supports. I got rid of the strap and had them add pins to the ladder and notches to the slide/carrier.

Here is a link to Kerlee's install

Thanks for the ideas. Iwndr, I would love to see the mods you did to your ladder. Why did you add the top plate? Do four 5/16 bolts and washers not displace the downward force of the ladder enough?

Actually, your last picture gave me a pretty good idea. I could take a nylon strap and add a snap to it and the the bottom of the ladder. Simply put the ladder back and then snap the strap in place.

I did not get any good shots of the wake, I am either surfing or driving...... and it looks like I will not have a chance to get any until next season
I looks like it would disrupt the wake but it really did not I will get you some pic's I think Kerlee has some wake pic's in his install that I attached a few posts back

Thanks for posting, Iwndr. Did you have to put those blocks on top because the ladder wouldn't clear when you pulled it out?

I would mount a spring loaded latch to the side.
