    Water gurgling back into exhaust?

I just noticed something my boat has never done before. Every time I turn her off water fills back into the exhaust. The first time it did this yesterday it sounded like a gurgle like we were taking on water. Neither my wife nor I have heard this before. What's the deal, is this normal? It does it everytime I turn off the motor. By the way, we're at Mead, it beautiful and a complete ghost town.

It's normal, I hear the same thing on mine, about 15 seconds or so after shutting off the engine.

    No worries.
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!

Yup...normal. Exhaust flaps are there to keep water from flooding up into the system when decelerating from speed, but they don't seal completely when the engine is off and the boat is still, so some water will get by. That's why the exhaust manifolds are on the top of the engine, rather than like a car and low on the sides...helps prevent water from getting into the engine.

      Ambivalent? Yes. Or Not.

Thanks guys. My wife and I would have bet the farm this was the first time we heard it. Obviously the first time we paid attention to it.

Now you see what the conditions will be like in 2 weeks for the reunion. You should come back down.
          Be excellent to one another.
