24V - How well does it handle rough water and chop?

    Hi all

I need a boat to not only wake board on smother days but to handle Havasu , Parker and the “ narrows” at Lake Powell type chop.

I have read how well the X-30 handles 3 and 4 foot rollers and chop.

How does the 24V and how will the 24ve do in chop?

I may one day take it to Tahoe and want to be safe on a windy day!

      Jeffro,

      You are biased!

I want to hear from owners of 24v's.

      Thanks though!

      PS

I’m glad I will not need to play with sacks to get a decent wake!

It handles the chop well. you do need to slow down and keep the bow up. in the large chop Over memorial day, winds were high and Lake Mead and Havasu crowded. About 40 boats were swamped. One of the scariest days I have been on the lake. I was glad i was in the new 24V and not the 20V i had sold.

As far as the wake, it is a little harder to dial in than my old 20V. Very sensitive to spped and weight. I do not have sacks and at lower speeds for the newer boarders it is difficult to eliminate the wash on both sides. At 21-22 mph the wake cleans up nicely.

I will be adding a ballast system next year as some of my neices and nephews are requesting larger wakes.
        Let it be!!!

I bought the 24v because of its chop handleing abilities. Our lake gets real choppy every day around 10:00 and we wanted a boat that we could still cruise in. There was a noticable difference between the 22v & 24v when I test drove them. There was just no comparison. My friends who all have I/Os are amazed at how well it rides. Definate recomendation here!

            Wake Havasu

Forgot to say that I have a house at Havasu and that is where we board, tube and boat 95% of the time. I have only had the boat since April but it handles havasu well. My 20V handled the rough water good for it size but I stepped up for the room and better rough water handling as the weekends are getting intense. I still get on the Lake on weekends between 5:30 and 6 to get some good boarding. By 10 am on Saturdays its time to tube.

              The 24 V rocks!

I think it will handle better than the X-30 because of 2 reasons:
              1. The 24V is substantially heavier and thus more stable and less rattling in the waves.
              2. TAPS - the ability to adjust the running attitude is a huge bonus.

I agree with XPjim about the wake being washy at slower speeds. But if you put the TAPS all the way down it helps a lot. I beleive that boarders that aren't ready to go 20MPH or better aren't ready to challenge the wake anyway. I do wish I could get a clean wake when my kids are kneeboarding at 16MPH.
              Be excellent to one another.

                24V all the way

I have a friend with the X-30 and he says mine rides better, he likes his for other reasons, (he thinks the X-30 is a status symbol) but in the chop he likes the 24V. I also have a friend with an 24 foot Reinell I/O and the ride is about the same going from one boat to another in the same chop. When it comes to boarding no wants to ride behind the I/O. We are having the show down on who's boat is the best all around on the 19 to the 23. We will have the I/O, the x-30, x45 for one day, a Malibu wakesetter and the 24V. My bet is on the 24V. I'll take some pics and post results the following week.

Original Wing Nut 24v All the way

I'd be interested in reading your comments after reviewing so many boats.

                    I read that the 2006 x-30 is a deeper V with a higher freeboard than the 2005 X-30.

Which year is the X-30 you are testing?

my last boat was a 22' four winns with a deep v hull. it was a pretty smooth ride, but in big waves, every wave slowed me down. now with my 24v, waves do not slow me down, the hull cuts rigfht through the waves. you can adjust your taps for even a better ride. the bigger the waves, the slower you have to go, but it is a very solid ride.
