I thought I would share my current setup for tying up at the beach at our lake. I realize not everyone can do this or make these items but here is what I am running. That is a 4' rule in the picture to give you an idea of the size. My buddy works for an energy company so he has access to a lot of fun stuff He even braided the rope onto the sand spike and another loop at the end. I swim out to where the water is about 4'+ deep and then I have an L shaped couple of pipes that I use to screw the anchor spike into the lake a good 2' or so and then you tie the boat to the fender and then pull it back to the rope that is attached to the sand spike. If you make this setup, just make sure that you have that anchor in pretty deep so that the hull can't strike it.
So far, so good. It's been through 40 mph winds with no trouble at all.
