    Shore spike/anchor setup - here's what I use

I thought I would share my current setup for tying up at the beach at our lake. I realize not everyone can do this or make these items but here is what I am running. That is a 4' rule in the picture to give you an idea of the size. My buddy works for an energy company so he has access to a lot of fun stuff He even braided the rope onto the sand spike and another loop at the end. I swim out to where the water is about 4'+ deep and then I have an L shaped couple of pipes that I use to screw the anchor spike into the lake a good 2' or so and then you tie the boat to the fender and then pull it back to the rope that is attached to the sand spike. If you make this setup, just make sure that you have that anchor in pretty deep so that the hull can't strike it.

So far, so good. It's been through 40 mph winds with no trouble at all.

Sweet setup! I wish my lake had sand so I could anchor close to a beach like that. We have a rocky shore with some mud about 30' deep so I use this chene anchor I found on iboats.

Its pretty versatile and holds very well, and its not too hard to retrieve with the sliding ring. I found it on iboats and use 10' of chain and 200' of rode. If its calm I'll use a 3:1 scope but if the wind picks up I'll let out as much rode as I can, trying for a 7-10:1 scope.

Large Box anchor and home made sand spike make out of 2" angle bar.

Im going to use the shore spike/box anchor set up, but heres my question. I know when ever your hanging out in a cove or "beaching" the boat your bow is suppost to be pointing towards the water so you dont take water on. But when your going to be close to shore like this wouldnt it be better for the bow to be pointed towards land because it would keep the prop/fins further away from hitting anything??? or do you just anchor off far enough to where it would be difficult to hit anything and you keep your bow pointing away from land.

Anchor far enough away that it is not a problem. Plus, if you have the anchor buddy on the front, you can pull the rope from your shore spike to the boat and step right onto the swim platform to get back in the boat.

X2 on the anchor buddy, for shallow day anchoring it is amazing!

you want your deck at least 2-1/2 to 3' of water so even big waves dont make the prop hit. i put in two shore spikes and the box anchor out front. i run my bowline from the box anchor through the front trailer tie down hook then loop it through a front cleat and tie there. that way i can get on and off the boat from the deck. and if your docking area is crowded like a party cove usually is the boat has very little side to side movement. and yes i'm anal about my boat getting a ding or a scratch. hope this helps.

I do put the bow in first on shoreline that is shallow. Otherwise I have to walk a ways out there to get to the boat.

I prefer a shoreline with more slope so that I can back in. Makes it nice to step onto the swimstep and then rinse the sand off my feet before I climb into the boat. that is much harder to do when the bow is in first.
                    Be excellent to one another.
