The Canadian Wake Nationals took place this past weekend in Shalom Park in Alberta. The likes or Shawn Watson, Chad Sharpe, Rusty Malinoski, Kyle Rattray and Trevor Hansen among many other. My brother Nick did not make the qualification for the open class and ended up placing 8th in Canada in Mens 1 division which had other PWT qualifiers like Jason Bannatyne and Dylan Millar so the competition was very tight. Nick was the only unsponsored rider in the division. Pretty proud of his efforts considering this is his first year competing Nationally. Need some more work though as what hurt him was rails as we just do not have any so his score was quite low.
It was funny though as the comp in Winnipeg the weekend before was behind and XStar and this National event was a Supra. When he used to compete years ago the best parts of the competition was getting to ride behind wake boats. Now 3 seasons into having our own the critiquing of other wakes has started to occur. We used to think every wake was so awesome as it was just so much better then the bayliner. Even with all the hype over the XStar wake, it was way to rampy with no kick. Our tige wake has so much more kick to it. Compared to the Supra was no comparison. Our tige was so much bigger. Although ours is a 24 foot comparing to 22 and ~23. Ballast is set up the way we like it in our boat but not sure how set up for the competitions but presuming it was set up right as it was to tow some of the best talent in the world. Not to make excuses or slam anyone that has these boats. Just assures us that we do have the best wake on the market for our needs.
Here is a short vid during the practice rounds. Nick has the majority of the vid and ends falling on a tanny to b.
