    What anchor to use

I am wondering what anchors you guys are using. I would like to get one so I can hang out instead of needing to move the boat every twenty minutes. I am normally in pretty mellow lakes do it shouldn't take much. Thanks for any advice you can give :-)

X2 on the box anchor, also you may want to add a anchor buddy.

Box anchor w/anchor buddy and the shore spike. I also have 2 of the Danik hooks, and it really makes a great system for anchoring.

I will offer up a different opinion.

I have a 22i and own a medium size box anchor. I was sold by all the hype on them offered up on all the wakeboard forums. Now I only use it if I am on a fast flowing river or a very windy lake. Otherwise I find it too bulky and heavy.

The best anchor IMHO is my Fortress aluminium anchor. It is very light and easy to handle.

You may want to take a look at those too.

canuk you say hype but all you mention is bulk and weight.i too was sold on the features of the box anchor. it weighs about 8 lbs,i would hardly call that bulky type heavy. granted you have to fold and unfold it. that is the only part that can be a pain as the spring tension is very stiff.it folds flat to a size of about 21" to 24" long and 8" to 10" wide and maybe 2" tall. so it is very easy to store. i can set it 6'to8' away in 6' of water.it holds like no other anchor. you set it and even if conditions change it's set. the only negative i could realisticaly agree with is the spring tension to set it.other than that it's perfect.

BOX. Put it upside down on the floor to install and remove the spring loaded elbow easier.

My box anchor weighs about 25lbs so you must have a very small one. According to their web site the baby box anchor weighs 13lbs.

Have you tried the Fortress anchor. I owe both and I'm just giving my opinion of the two different anchors.

Yeah, I have the medium and it is a beast. But, it really has been a set it and forget it. I watch people with the Danforth anchors throwing, backing up, rethrowing, etc. and all I do is toss it over board and it is stuck. I don't know why it seems only inboard boat owners seem to know about them. They're pricey but worth it. They store very nicely too.

Actually the Fortress anchors are more expensive than the box anchor ($167 vs. $144). You can compare both on the West Marine webstore.

I agree that the box anchor has great holding power. But I've also had no issues with my Fortress anchor and it is quite a bit lighter than my box anchor (really noticable when pulling the anchor up).

I boat on the Pitt River in the Vancouver area and it can be a very fast moving river. It is a tidal river and when the tide is going out it flows very fast. My Fortress holds very well without any issues.
