Damn it I hate that people don't pay attention. Boats are so fricken dangerous it isn't funny.
If he lost hte guy in the Sun, why didn't he get off the throttle???!!!
I get upset cause a couple of boats on the river where we are, are total tools that get upset at me when I point out they aren't being safe. Makes me want to call the cops on them every time.
I hate this too. I've not done much boating (which may be why I'm more paranoid about this)...but I watch everyone on the lake anywhere near me. Most people suck at driving a car on the road and at least there you've got lanes and a certain side of the road you're supposed to be on. I figured people might boat the same way...wrong..people boat all over the damn place and don't seem to pay attention to a damn thing.
I have also noticed too that people pulling tubes seem to be the worse as for some reason the drivers whole intent is to break their kids neck? So they drive all over the damn place. It's scary out there. I need a job that allows me to go out on weekdays as it's a drastic difference.
Should need more than a drivers license to drive a boat...but I also think you need more than a drivers license to drive a car. This is why my 15 year won't drive until she's 40...can't date until then either
I got home last night and was ready to post about some of the idiots we saw yesterday but decided it was time to sleep instead.
I was towing my best friend wakeboarding and where we ride is a narrow channel where wakeboarding is very popular so decently crowded, but we know all of the guys that ride back there and trust them as good, safe boat drivers. Well yesterday two boats come through going 25+ and they looked to be driving 20 feet behind the other then when they weave through all of the wakeboarders we notice a rope towing them. The rear boat was flopping around on top of the water completely out of control going from one side of the tow boat's wkae to the other and we had riders both riding and in the water. throughout the narrow channel!! Didnt seem like anyone on either boat cared or was paying attention, im sure every wake driver was yelling and trying to avert the two boats.
Luckily no one was hit or hurt but still one of those nervous, dangerous moments. I am completely in favor of having boat driving tests or some sort of awareness test for boat drivers. Im only 20 but have been on boats my whole life and when a more experienced boater tells me something that would improve my driving i listen and do what i can to protect my riders, passengers, myself, and every other person around.
It frustrates me when people are ignorant/stupid and put people in harms way. Sorry about the rant but that is my opinion and when it comes to boating YES it is very fun but safety is the #1 thing that should be in all boaters minds.
As this summer in canada has been very warm we have had more traffic on the lake than in previous years. It can be nerve-racking on the weekend to be sure. we all have to have a boaters license here, more a money grab i think than a true license but everyone at least has to put some effort into getting one. I don't think this necessarily makes people better/safer drivers. As a previous post noted, just look at the highways. we all need to drive our boats like we would a car, defensively. watch out for the erratic drivers/boaters out there and the air horn is a great idea. we try to ski in the am for the calm water but is also nice to not have to worry about the fools running you or your rider down. power turns are acceptable to us to shield riders in the water from other boats. play safe everyone.
We try to get our riding in early and when the crazies come out, we rack the boards and head to the beach for the day. And there is plenty of them at our local spot. Hopefully fall riding time will increase!
