Lock for Spare Tire

I have a boatmate trailer and have a new spare tire with raised mount, that mounts to the cross beam. I am thinking of just running a cable through the wheel and around the main trailer beam to lock and/or secure the spare tire so it does not disappear. Any other suggestions? Thanks

I use a bicycle cable with a integrated combo lock...No need for another key to keep track of...Have done this for 20 plus years and have not lost a spare yet...
