    What, no FAE?

So we were out all day today, from like 9am til 5pm. GREAT day with the new 2010 RZ2.

First, we have an FAE on our 24Ve, I would go so far as to say, after having it, it should be mandatory. Totally cleans up the exhaust while moving. No question.

Well, I rode in the 2010 Tige RZ2s that were NOT for california, so they didn't have the new PCM cat engines.

Here is a pic of my new engine in the tige, the EX-343 catanium from PCM.

In the NON cat engine, all day, in the ballast boy seat, I could smell the exhaust, and now having a FAE, have become more sensitive to it. It was as bad as my 24Ve before FAE. Now all day in that seat with the cat motor, its like having an FAE, no kidding. I was with Bre Horton all day, she was laying on back of boat taking pics, she also was amazed. She thought I had FAE on the new RZ2. It was that clean.

Don't take this and run with it yet, I think I should take some measurements, but it was VERY noticeable.

    Another testimony...

Ken Stanek was the photographer at the NW Open we just came from. He harnesses himself in for safety and then stands on swim deck all day, taking shots. Last year, he got visibly effected by CO. Had to take a break, and had a huge headache, looked horrible. This year, the centurions had the same CAT motors on them. He got sunburned, and I talked to him at end, and he said it was also a huge difference. He didn't feel exposed at all after standing on the swimdeck for hours on end.

Stay tuned for more. My suggestion, put these on all boats, not just california. Order yours with the CAT.

i thought i read somewhere that even CAT engines still have the dangerous fumes ... i could be wrong but i thought I read that somewhere.. might want to look into it because CO is odorless and tasteless ... i bet its still back there and that is what the FAE is for

These Indmar Cat engines have been offered in Malibu's since 2007 and CO emissions are virtually eliminated.

All internal combustion gasoline engines produce pollutants, but emission control devices such as the CAT's help reduce the amount that comes out the tail pipe. Through pre-combustion measures and ECM controls, they have reduced the amount produced during combustion, which makes a CAT engine even more effective.

We put the cat option on our RZ2 (even thought not required in Missouri) for that very reason. That catalyst will definitely scrub a good portion of the CO out.

Nonetheless, I will probably go overkill this winter and put on an FAE. In the early evening, when the humidity rises and the temp falls around dusk, you can see the exhaust pooling more at the surface, especially down in the well of the surf wave.

I don't know that you need the FAE with a CAT, definitely want to see the test results. I've read that with a newer car with cats/emissions equipment that it's very difficult (if not impossible) for someone to kill themselves in a garage with a running car nowadays.

I think the FAE may be desirable even without the CO issue. Under certain conditions, you can still smell exhaust. And even though the PCM engine is super quiet, the FAE will quiet it further.

Clearly, an FAE is not as urgent a safety concern with the cat engines (or I would have put one on immediately).

I was looking at some 2010 RZ's with the PCM CAT engines yesterday, and the single exhaust port is close to the Taps plate (above the left side of it). Seems like it might be tough to get an FAE on there (assuming it's necessary). Anyone know if Larry has made any for the new boats yet?

My 2007 Malibu has the cats and I love it. We never turn the engine off while switching riders.

                          Quote of the day!

That's pretty cool that the CATs do such a nice job. Hopefully they will become standard equipment in the not too distant future.

I will get that measurement device again and measure. My gut and nose, and google skills tell me the FAE is NOT necessary on this boat.
