boat trailer bunks carpet or tephlon strips

I am replacing the carpet on my boat trailer boards. I have shopped around and have heard about these tephlon strips instead of using carpet? They said it loads and unloads easier and you do not have to replace it as often as you do carpet. The boards also dry instead of staying wet and rotting the boards out. Just want to make sure that it will not scratch my gel coat, because my boat is trailered every time we take it out. Has anybody ever used this or heard about it?

Never heard of it but I would be interested in it. Just re-did my bunks this yr with marine bunk carpet and it is already wearing out.

I have only seen it on pontoon boats. I would be very concerened about it scratching the gelcoat.

Thanks for the replies, but I have been on the phone with some trailer people and they have had issues with scrathching the gel coat. So I guess I will try the carpet again. Any suggestions on a bunk carpet that they have liked? They did say to use spray silicon on the carpet after installation. This will help with the life of the carpet and the the boat coming on and off the trailer with ease.

Never heard the bit on the spray silicon but it makes sense. Maybe I will try that...we have a real shallow ramp and it is hard to get the trailer deep enough to float the boat to the front. I end up having to add power to slide it up and it is real hard on the carpet and I am sure, my gel coat.

I saw that stuff and just did regular bunk carpet again. I lost a bunk last weekend, that was a pain in the butt! 9:30pm at night at a dark lake (absolutely no lighting at all whatsoever) and the bunk fell off. Found it but the bolts were gone so I had to take a couple out of the others to load it on the trailer and then left it at the lake.

If you want slick carpet use Liquid Rollers. HOly BALls!! That stuff works incredible!!

The first time I launched after using it I followed my normal routine of unhooking the bow strap and chain. I was just going to float it in like I've done 1000s of times. Thank freaking God nobody was standing behind me and I was lined up straight at the launch. The boat started coming off WAY before normal in a shallow launch so I stomped hard on the throttle to put the boat as far in the water before it came off the trailer. Luckily, I made it deep enough and all was fine...except the tird pile in my boardshorts.

Moral of the story is---Liquid Rollers WORKS!

I installed Caliber brand bunk slides on my 22i front bunks. After replacng carpet and having board show after 1 season I deceided something had to be done. Iam very happy with them so far. No scratches on ge coat. The grooves seem to wash ou sand and rocks from ramp very well.

I bought spray silicon from my local napa store and it worked great.
