    Towing yourboat in tandem?

Anyone do it? I am thinking of adding a camper of some sort to our arsenal next year instead of the old tents. Maybe a tear drop camper. I would get a removable hitch made for my trailer and tow the tear drop camper behind it. The camper weighs in at about 800 +/- pounds. I do have a steel boatmate trailer.

    Any thoughts?

I'd say you are pretty brave, not becuase I know anything about it. I just have no want to try. So is this camper like a little pop-up job? or a big fifth wheel? I'm not familiar with what a tear drop camper is.

I have seen several threads on this subject...some with pics of guys that do it. At the end of the day it comes down to control of your rig. I have thought of doing the same and decided I would have to spend too much money on a new truck rig that could pull that much. Many ppl have those cab over campers and the new ones are pretty slick with slideouts and extending tents.

Check your state laws before you buy anything. Some states double hauling is illegal, and others have speed limits, and length limits. In FL you can only go 65MPH and can only have a total length of 65' truck included. 65 feet total package adds up fast. My f150 is 18.5' so lets say you have a 22ve thats another 25 feet with platform and trailer tongue. So that only leaves you about 21.5 feet for whatever else you got. Plus you will most likely need to tow the camper first unless you want to remove your platform cuz you will hit it in turns if its not off.

My neighbor used to do it with his half ton Chevy. 20 foot travel trailer and a 17 foot Glastron. I would think the weight of a Tige would make that a not so wise move. Getting going is OK, but stopping straight might be a problem if any brakes are not applying even. I would not try it even with my F250. Thats just conservative me though.

Just don't plan on bringing it to CA, the speed limit with one trailer is 55 mph and the idea of pulling two is unheard of. Also, don't bring a gun that can hold more than 10 rounds, don't talk on your cell phone while you drive, and don't even think about not wearing your seat belt.

10 rounds!!! Across the entire state!!! That is ridiculous, thank God for Texas.

Back on topic, I saw someone towing 2 Z1s behind a full ton pickup in the vicinity of Abilene. They were going the opposite direction on the highway so I didn't see what type of trailers they were but it's possible.

If you really want a camper and have a pickup a Lance Camper might be easier then trying to pull doubles.

I would first go with checking your state regulations on this topic. I have seen many double rigs going down the highway. Most are 1 ton truck pulling a 5th wheel trailer pulling a boat or quad trailer. The 60-65 ft max length is pretty standard for states that allow it.

The big thing is tongue weight. Which ever one is first must have the proper tongue weight to keep it coupled up. Usually depending on what you are towing last you will have to add tongue weight to the first one.

I know little about this dbl thing... What I have learned about is: where the weight gets put on a work trailor makes a big difference. Speed makes a big big difference and when you go a bit too fast it starts waggen quick. I'd love to do the dbl thing (to say I've done that) but I think there is a whole new list of things to learn and it would go bad quick if you missed one. (a gust of wind and uneven pavement). please tell us how it goes.
