    boat pulling boat

couldnt think of a good title for this thread but i figure that works.

When you guys pull another boat another boat in to the docks, they broke down/run outta gas, where do you pull from? Ski pylon? I cant think of another place I would want to tow a boat from.

Transom hooks. I have a y-harness that is used for tubing that hooks to the transom hooks.

Do you trust it to pull another boat?

Well I can help you out because we got towed back due to running over our wakeboard rope. Well when we called the lifeguard they attached to a special pole they had then attached their line to our bow eye where the winch is hooked up to. Then they handed the job over to some volunteer coast guards they had a tow strap that ran through the transom hooks then ran it to our bow line. We put the boat on the trailer cut the rope and went back out btw.

That is what the factory and dealers use to move your boat around and on and off trailers. It holds the compleate weight of your boat.

At the speeds I would tow another boat I would trust it.

was the rope wrapped around the prop?

But ok, looks like next time I will pull out my McGuiver skills and boyscott the line to Y to the 2 transom hooks....

Wouldnt that hurt the transom hooks? the force will be pinching them in, they werent designed to sustain force in that direction....

Yeah wrapped around the prop and down the shaft we killed it immidiately but man that prop must spin fast cause it was wrapped a good 15 times. The wakes of other boats sent us into a cove that was to choppy to get under the boat and cut the line. If I hadent noticed we would have hit rocks my friends and I quickly hopped out of the boat and pushed it back to deep water until we got a tow. Enough of my hijack now

Damn man that sucks. I was gonna ask why you didnt just pull a commando scuba mission with a knife between your teeth and cut the rope, but damn that choppy water haha!!
No worries. I hijack my fair share.

X2. I also keep a Y-harness with a 25 foot tool attached that I use. It works well.

Do NOT pull from your ski pylon...it's not rated for that kind of force.

my buddy has the SeaTow franchise on the lake here, remember this when you have someone "under tow", you are liable for the boat and passengers. In the unlikely event something goes wrong, it's all on you. That said, I would tow someone I know a very short distance at a very slow speed to get them out of harms way. Other than that I call Sea Tow or the water patrol.

my 03 has the ski pylon from hell. I have towed a few boats from it with no problems. the newer ones are a different story. Like everybody said you dont go fast so its really no big deal. I have the "y" harness from an old boat but I feel confident my ski pole will do the job with ease.

I'd have to look at the rating on mine but I think it's only 300#'s or something much lower than I would be comfortable towing another boat with.
