    Scan tool

Ok it is obvious we need a scan tool for everyone on the forum. I am looking at buying a PC, and a DIACOM set up so we can diagnose these boat systems.

My thought is this. I will purchase the system. I will then lease it out to everyone that needs it.

Here is my thought on how to work it.

each person will be responsible for freight. There will be a daily usage fee, a, handling fee and I would have to have a credit card charged and then reimbursed when the tool is returned in complete working order for the total value of the tool and computer.

I am thinking $20.00 a day and that starts from the day you receive the tool and ends the day you provide tracking information that the tool is being returned.

It is getting harder and harder to fix these boats as the dealers go out of business and you have no where to take the boat for repairs.

Just give me your thoughts and let me know what you guys think.

I don't think there's enough demand for something like that, is there?
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I think it is a good idea. The key for me will be having somebody with the knowledge to tell me what the actual problem is by interpreting the data. This is because I'm an idiot.

I would gladly pay 20 per day to use the scan tool. Can I be first to try it?

Great idea, will you buy the service manuals to go with the tool so we can interpret the codes? I would definitly need this if I was staying in Del Rio, but I'm moving to WA and there is a new dealer 20 miles from my new house. I hope it will still be available when my warranty expires in 3 years.

I think it would be helpful. A lot cheaper than paying the nearest dealer to do it. Of course this is assuming it's easy to use for those of us who are not mechanics.

The service manual for GM MEFI 5 is available from the Marine Power website. All 286 pages of it. All the diagnostics you could ever want and then some.

Damn I could have sooooooo used this just last month!!!!

$20/day is probably a little to cheap honestly, if you want to break even anytime soon, which knowing you I'm sure is all your goal is.... Just to break even I mean.

But it's a fantastic idea. The only I would think about is, there's only really about 5 or 6 of us on here to really much of the work ourselves. Might be a while till you broke even.

I will break even on the tool by next week with local business. I am just posting this up as an offer for everyone else to help out as I know that the need is increasing. We can certainly get help with interpreting the data to everyone. That is not to hard to do with today's technology.

I think I will have the tool with in the next two or three weeks. I have one job left to do for a Malibu customer and once that is done I will own the tool.

Yup, looking forward to it. I'll be driving up to Spokane in Dec. I always wanted to live in a place that had nice lakes for the summer and nice mountains in winter a short drive away for both.

I am an auto tech in MN. This is a really great idea for the forum members. All the basic sensors being the same as auto useage what kind of plug/connector and software is needed for this. The ford scan tool is pc based, can the software be downloaded into any laptop and connectors be purchased from there. Very cool idea for those with some mechanical ability.
