    Did I Kill my clutch???

I went to Shasta this weekend, for a houseboat trip. On Sun, we decided to try surfing. I had 5 lead bars, and seven "beefy" guys in the boat. The wake was great. However, my clutch kept slipping.
    A) I have the carb 350 (270 HP)
    B) On the lake, the only gas they have is 87 octane, not the supreme
    C) I had way more payload than is designed for the boat

On the trip back to the marina, with just me in the boat, it ran fine. ... While surfing, could the clutch have just overheated, and started to slip? Do I need to have it adjusted?

    Please help....

Could it have been cavitation ?

pull your transmission dipstick and smell the fluid. should smell sweet and be red in color. if it stinks real bad and looks dirty then you smoked the transmission . but like gizmo said you could be cavitating.

did everything workout for you with the speedo pick-up?

You probably already checked this, but if the fluid level is low it will slip, especially with heavier loads.

Thanks to all three of you! Yes the Speedo worked. One Speedo is 4 MPH higher than the other, don't know why, but it is a minor problem. PP will go there eventually anyway.
I thought it might be cavitation, but wasn't sure. We checked the Tranny fluid, and it was still good. (Wheeew!!)

          Thanks again!!!!

the speedo's can be calibrated to eachother and to the perfect pass.

The speedo that is off, doesn't have any adjusting buttons. The other, (one with depth readout, and adjusting buttons) is reading the correct speed. I did a search for speedo calibration, and the stuff I found was how to callibrate PP to the speedo. If it is too hard, I'm not going to worry, but if it is easy, it will make it easier for others to drive, when I'm riding.

              Thanks!!!!

for the speedo with out any other functions look under the dash and trace out the wires for that speedo. there should be a small dial you can turn to calibrate that speedo.
