I know what you're going through. Almost lost my youngest 4 years ago with an injury like that (except to his arm). Just a freakish accident. Kids bounce back. If they were able to save the foot he should recover nicely. I will tell you that it's all a matter of attitude. My son was determined to recover.

      Update - 07/10/10

      Hello,

      Just a quick update.

My son had what we hope to be his final surgery (at least for a while) this morning. Doctors said it went well and that we are now in the recovery phase. The foot has good color and blood flow seems to be pretty good. They think that it looks about as good as it could at this stage.

He is completely knocked out from the surgery and pain meds they are giving him. Wish I take some! If all goes well with recovery from this last surgery, they said he may be able to go home by the end of next week. We are keeping our fingers crossed!!

Thank you again for your kind thoughts and prayers. I have no doubt that they are what has helped him and the rest of the family thru this ordeal.

For now things are looking up although he has a long way to go.

      Warm regards,

      -Ken

Good to hear his progress is going well. I included your son, your family and all of the medical staff attending to his needs and care in my prayers at church yesterday.

God Bless you and your family.
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!

                  Update - Great, Great Day!!!!

I wanted to let you all know what a great day yesterday was. My son came home from the hospital!!!!

We could not be happier to have him home. Although he is still in pain and on many drugs for his various injuries his spirits are bright.

I want to thank eveyone again for your kind words and most improtantly your prayers. I believe these were what carried him and the rest of the family to this point. I can not tell you how happy I am to have him home.

He still has a long way to go but yesterday was a huge step on his way to recovery.

                  Warm regards,

                  -Ken

I am sorry for such a late reply. I am on the go so much. I am glad everything is working out so far. Just like everyone we will keep him in our thoughts and prayers. He is near the same age of my oldest son and I fear this or worse could happen to him every time he gets behind the wheel. But we have to let them grow and learn and become independent. That is very hard to do as parents when we keep them protected for so many years. Then they get to drive and start to spread their wings and take control of some of their Independence.

I can only imagine your pain as parents. As already said by others keep us informed and our best wishes for a speedy recovery

I also am late reading about your son's accident, but am glad to read that things are improving. I have three kids and when the phone rings I always hope its not the CALL. Good luck with his recovery, Houston has some of the best Docs in the country.
