Update
First off I want to thank everyone for your kind words and prayers for my son. I believe your prayers and those of many others has helped him get to the point that he is today.
He went back in for surgery on his lower leg again today to try and clean up some more of the damage that was done. The doctors are pretty positive that the operation was a success. He has good color to his foot and is starting to get more feeling in his toes and ankle. He is still very swollen but that is not a surprise given the trauma of the accident and nature of the injuries.
He will need at least one more surgery before he will be able to leave the hospital. Right now the doctors seem to be the most concerned about infection due to the lower leg damage but the they have a plan and seem to be executing to it. They expect he will be in the hospital for at least one more week. His spirits are doing better and he keeps asking the doctors when he will be able to wake board, play football and lacrosse. The look on his face was painful as the doctors told him it would be probably a year before will be able to participate in any sports. He is lucky that he is young and hopefully will heal quickly.
Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he is still in a fair amount of pain and has a very long rehab ahead of him.
Your kind words and thoughts have helped comfort my family more than you will ever know. As many people have commented before, the support on this site is amazing. I am happy to be a part of this community and I thank you all again.
Warm regards,
-Ken

We will add your son to our thoughts and prayers. From you description it appears that he has gotten good medical care which is important.
We went thru our own tragedy last June when my brother in-law had a bad motocross accident on a downhill jump. He also tore up his femur and tibia with compound fractures and ripped his riding boot off his foot. After 11 operations to try rebuilding his foot and kill the persistent infection that set in from the dirty wound to the foot that embedded itsself into one or more dead bones in his foot the infection caused him to loose the battle when his lower bone was 40% of the size it should of been. He had his leg amputated below the knee in April and once he had approval to go into a lake he went hydro foiling and was up on first attempt. A couple of weeks ago he got his sport prosthesis and was able to get up on a slalom ski over the 4th. Prayer and support from his family and friends have made a big difference in coping over the long period of time and all the operations. Almost 9 months after his crash he was finally able to go into a lake.
I am sure that your son will recover based on what you have shared. I mention my brother in law because it was a long road but with the right support and attitude miracles can happen as I am hopeful that your son will heal well with good medical care.Last edited by MoneyPity; 07-09-2010, 06:43 AM.

Update
The entire family again thanks everyone here for their kind words along with thoughts and prayers.
The last couple of days have been rough for him as the doctors try to adjust the pain medication. His spirits are pretty good considering all he has been through but he has moments where he breaks down which is expected. He puts up a good front and acts upbeat and alert when friends come to visit. As a parent it is tough to see your child have to endure what he is going through. There have been many times that I had to leave the room because I did not want him to see the anguish and pain on my face as he was dealing with his own problems. The family is continuing to stay strong for him as we take this day by day.
He goes in again tomorrow morning for another surgery to try and help close up some of his wounds. Please continue to pray for him that the surgery will be a success.
Warm regards,
-Ken

My nephew had similar circumstances (injury to his soft tissue, broken leg, etc) due to a wakeboarding accident. He has adapted quite nicely to the effects of his accident. We hope and pray that your son will make a full recovery. If he has any long lasting effects to his leg or foot, I can put you in touch with my nephew who might give him some words of encouragement.
