Ya the wind can really get blowing in the afternoon some times. If you hang out in the cover, it will blow over in a few hours (Most of the covers are surrounded by hills, so the wind does not affect them)

do any of you guys do day trips to places like nacamiento, san antonio, or piru??? Which is a good lake out of all of the lakes in that area to get on the water for a day.

Just got back from San antonio.

My favorite lake we go to.

If you going just for a day Naci is just as nice and 20 min closer

I didnt think san antonio and nacimiento were that far, I think we want to do either bass lake or somewhere in nevada this next week. At Lake Mead and Mojave the wind is a big turn off. Any info or advice about Laughlin? Good place to do some wakeboarding? and teaching wakeboarding?

              edit: lake silverwood???

Personal, I love Laughlin. The hotels are cheap and it’s only 10 min from the water.
Boat in the am and play in the PM. Take a nice HOT shower and get a good sleep on a real bed and then do it all over again.
The wind can come up in the afternoon, but it most blows north. What this means, if you stay near the dam, (Davis Dam) you can get some nice water even when the wind is blowing. There are also many large coves to the north on the right hand side that are great for teaching. (Most of the time you can get one to yourself)
                Where are you located?

Catherins can be a real pain on a weekend. I've been in line for over 1 hr to pick up boat on ramp. A friend of mine spent 3 hrs waiting for a spot on the ramp to pick up his boat. Its definelty quicker to get the boat in and out at telephone cove, but you go on a dirt road and dirt ramp. There is some chance of cars get stuck pulling boats out because they do not have 4 wheel drive. The water can be real nice or it can get real real nasty and real hot, windy. At the river I like Cottonwood Cove. Has a real easy and big launch ramp. Look at the weather forcasts for the area on the weather channel. Personally a like San Antonio. Family oriented, camping, deer come through campground in the evening, playground for kids not as hot as River.

How far do you want to drive?
I live in West Covina (just down the 10)

willing to drive around 4 hours if it is worth it. Part of me just wants to go to havasu.

I like Havasu. Saturdays are a pain unless you get out early and launch at Cattail. Takes longer for the crazies to head south. Sundays and mondays are nice on the lake. Wind is a pain anywhere in the desert.
                            Let it be!!!

I've been to all of them and of the three I'd pick Castiac. It has less wind and the PWC's are confined to their own area. Although weekends are always crowded at Pyramid and Castiac, I've found great water during the week.
