Talk me out of this....Thinking bout leaving Tige family

I have a friend with a twin cockpit Magic. It's an awesome ride. He did have an outdrive go out once at 100+. Not a big deal but you can only go REAL slow(not much more than idle speed) with one engine. It was a long ride from the top of Havasu to the launch ramp.

Lucky I don't have to pay for gas!!!! Twin 100 gal that will burn through almost all of it on that run to the top of Havasu and back at top speed.

If you are paying around with the idea of a 35' boat that can do 90mph, you probable can afford a tow boat as well, The best of both worlds.

HAHA... I wish!!!! And when I'm saying I'm getting a smoking deal on the 35, I mean SMOKING!!!! Nothing like what you'd think about price wise when you think of a 35' with twins. I'm still thinking 35' is just wayyyy to big. IF I do this, probably dropping to the 30'.

You could always do both. Get the boat, then find someone crazy enough to let you pull them in the high speed waterski competitions.

I had the oppurtunity to borrow a new 2009 30' Checkmate (single screw) last year over the 4th. It was a lot of fun and the acceleration was exhilerating. You can only idle around or go faster than 20 mph. There is no in between because you can't see over the nose. 50 - 55 was a comfortable cruising speed. When I got above 70 it was a little spooky for me. Catching a big wave at an angle at 70 scared the crap out of me!

Hard to do anything behind the boat. Even swimming was more difficult. Also there was no bimini. Fun boat for the weekend, but I would never trade.

My buddies dad was the first person to ever break 100mph on the water in the early 60's. It was done in a small flat bottom.

Now he focuses on his other boats. Most recent is his Eliminator. We hit 147 a few weekends ago. Once you put ypur arms up they get pushed back & you can't bring them down.

The go fast boats are cool for Havasu, poker runs, etc but the fuel will eat you alive! Back when gas was $5 a gallon I saw pictures of people spending $900 a weekend on gas for those things! What's the smallest tank one of those is going to have? 90 gallons? Even at $3 a gallon you're at $250-$300 and at all out speeds you can easily blow through that in 1 day.

Go for the 35'. Use it for a summer and see how you like that lifestyle. If it's not for you, sell it. Since you're getting a SMOKING deal on it, you should be able to get your money back out and put it back into a tow boat. It's just one season.

I was raised around flat bottoms as well and love the speed and sheer cool factor. So far as the big boats go, I have always appreciated the ability to go out and hammer down when everyone else is sitting around with their pud in their hand. Do it and take me for ride!

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Maybe I'll toy around the idea keeping the tow boat and renting it. Just thinking it'll get wayyy to beat up doing that though.

As ya'll know I have a new Z1 and my dad has a 25' Baja Outlaw with a 496. So we board one day and go fast the other day, best of both worlds. My wife and I say when we are to old to wakeboard, surf, etc, then we may get a go fast boat. We went with my dad in a poker run a few years back in 2007 and between entry fees, gas, calcutta auction, etc. he dropped $2500. in one day. He has not done a poker run since. Well he did blow his engine at the end of 2008 and just got his boat back last weekend for father's day after a nightmre repair totalling over $10,000, another long story that would probably bore ya'll here.

So with a bigger faster boat, comes bigger faster repair bills.

We are at a poker run Saturday and talked to a guy with a 38' Sonic with triple 502's, one was not running right and they could only do 85 mph. My dad's 25' with a 496 does 70+ mph.

I would say start small for a few years and see if you like it then drop the big bucks for a big boat if you want.

There was a Donzi 38' seeling for $200,000 with triples in our area last weekend.

I'm with everybody else on here. We all bought Tiges because we wanted to do the tow thing, but I completely understand the need for speed.

If you are going to do the go fast thing, why would you not want to go with the biggest boat you can? A 30' is a big boat with all the big boat problems and big boat fuel costs, so is a 35' boat. But when you pull up next to the 30' on a poker run wouldn't you rather be in the 35'???

It's a vicous cycle, then when you have the 35' and you pull up next to a 45, wouldn't you rather be in the 45', it can hold even more girls, I mean people, lol.
