    Limp mode

My 2007 20v goes into limp mode when throttle in neutral position for more than 2 seconds.Dealer in spokane attemted
plus last summer spoke with eddie at marine power has tryed reprograming and replacing control module, water empeller, was good for a while.Boat runs great otherwise close to 500 hours just a pain in the *** especially if my wife is driving when I surf as she has to keep it enguaged in gear and make sure throttle stays above idle or it goes into limp mode and she is not a good enough driver to handle this boating delema.
    Thanks Rick

Is it only happening when your going in and out of gear? What I mean by this...say you've got the boat running on the trailer in the water and it's just idling, does it go into limp there? Or only after you've dropped it into reverse and drive?

First I bet you've got the EIDBS system (Dual batteries). Make sure both batteries are fully charged, as a voltage difference will cause you to get an alarm. Your dealer can re-wire the system so that this will never be a problem though.

2nd... I'd put money it's your Potentiometer in the throttle assembly. This is a fairly cheap part, and fairly straight forward swap.

Just a tip.... if you've gone into limp mode from this, you can unplug the grounds on the batteries or unplug the ECM for a bit. After a minute or 2, this will reset it enough, to allow you to get going again. But the next time you drop into neutral, your probably gonna have a problem again. So you'll need to avoid neutral, and you'll want to be just above idle or your gonna set the code again. Been there, done that, and it's scary not having the emergency reverse to stop your forward progression in tight spots.

Either way you'll need to have your dealer clear the code out of your ECM, it's more than likely tripped a "code 81".

yes i have dual battery installed by dealer 2 years later but i think problem started before this.limp mode occurs anytime idle drops below 900
and red light is on.very slow driving or just idling.plus i upgraded cruise to gps based now cruise switch must stay on or same thing happens.

Well you need to have a dealer scan the ECM and find out what code it's throwing. It sounds almost as if you have 2 different things going on here.

I don't see how having the cruise switch on would affect anything. Who installed it?

I really would lean towards the potentiometer due to the idle problem. But the fact that you gotta have the cruise on leaves me totally stumped.

What's your oil pressure at when your idling and the boat goes into limp mode?

An alarm sounding is not a Limp mode, but just an indication of low oil pressure, high engine temp, low water flow, etc. Limp mode would result in reduced engine power (basically idle) by the ECM in order to prevent engine damage or loss of throttle control with the DBW (drive by wire) system.

Exactly what symptoms are you experiencing? This may help to narrow the search.

Chp, Does limp mode not also come with the alarm on the marine power motors?

Everytime I've went into limp mode, I've got the alarm at the same time is why I ask.

Buzzer and limited throttle happens when you start up and let it idle. But if you enguage throtle before idle drops below 900 rpm
warning buzzer will not come on.Same thing when driving keep idle
above 900 rpm no problem,as soon as you bring into or close to neutral buzzer comes on and you have to restart and enguage quick
before idle drops below 900 rpm.Not sure on exact postion of guages re oil pressure etc but i think everything ok.marine power
worked on this problem at there shop so i would assume engine is ok just some kind of wierd problem.Boat worked ok for one day after returning from marine power repair depot.

buzzer and very limited power when you leave boat in neutral or just slightly enguaged.but if you keep idle above 900 rpm boat including oil pressure water temp seem fine.marine power in idaho worked on it reprogramed everything ran it on river seemed ok.came home to lake and one day later same thing

                      Limp Mode Pain

Who are you using for a Tige Dealer in Spokane? My 2007 Tige 21i is at Toblers (The Tige Dealer) for a limp mode problem. It only has seven hours on it and Toblers say they are just learning the Tige stuff. Be afraid.

Check your oil level while on the water. Is it low? Are you using the recommended viscosity?

What is your oil pressure when your symptoms occur?

It seems that the common causes of limp-mode that we have dealt with do sound the alarm, but I can't say if all causes of limp-mode sound the alarm. I can say also, that not every thing that sets the alarm, triggers limp mode. Up until now, the alarm was the only symptom noted. Since he has now noted the loss of throttle control, and the fact that boat was not built with the Tige EIDB system, I would lean towards an out of range throttle POT.
