    Anchor question

Just starting to realize that in the lake I boat in with a south west wind I may need to anchor my boat away from shore.

What is the best type/style of anchor you guys are using?

    Thanks

Are you looking to keep your boat in the water when you are not using it or just want to anchor close to a beach for swim/picnic time? If for storage then you want to set up a mooring bouy and that's a little more involved.

In that case, completely agree with the whole system as Guma describes.

I use one of these...but I'm simply anchoring for swimming and lunch time...nothing overnight. It works great for me.

I finally just picked up a small box anchor last weekend. I had been using a Danforth for many years.

Box Anchor is by far the best - kind of a a pain to clean off if you have a muddy bottom, but still very worth it.

I love my box anchor, but it really depends on what the bottom is. Box anchor works great in sand/mud. I use the shore spike along with a my box (or fluke) and it holds even in really rough water/high winds.

West Marine recently lowered their prices on the box anchor:
