Nickypoo...yes, the Bu interiors are nice. We went to the trouble to measure seat widths and all the interior dimensions when we were shopping for our boat. Everything is a trade off when you get right down to it. The interior of the Tige is more spacious than the Malibu...the trade off is that the malibu seats are a little wider at the base and feel more comfortable the first time you sit in them... I am talking about the benches on the sides and back...

My wife would be the first to tell you that the Bu seats were softer and more cushy feeling... But she also bought into the discussion that the Tige seats start out a little harder but last much longer... After being out in our new boat a few times...everyone has settled into their "normal" spots in the boat and nobody is whining that the seats are uncomfortable... That being said...we are new 24Ve owners so we are still in the honeymoon big time... I am going to be bummed if Tige makes wider seat bases next year... So it goes...

Despite our obvious loyalties...your family is going to completely dig your new ride. For those that don't know, John has been a long time contributor to the Tigeowners web site and only recently went to the dark side of Malibu... Not that my vote counts, but you are still welcome here to be sure!!! Can we at least put a little Tige sticker on the transom or something...???
It's OK, wrangler, I knew I was in for it when I posted the pics ... just wanted to keep the thread alive, and I know some of you out there were interested in the "other" brand comparisons.

As Nickypoo states in an earlier thread, it really was the interior that kept us from the Tige more than anything else. Yes, the Tige boat is very well built, great hull, etc., but we do more than just wakeboard and surf ... I want the comfort and amenities that Malibu is offering for the "downtime" we spend in the boat. And while the Bu doesn't have a 6" thick hull, it still felt very solid in our test drive over doubleups, chop, etc. If my power wedge drops off the transom I'll be very disappointed, but I have to believe that some engineer at Malibu has thought that through. Just my 2 cents.

And waiting for still more grief!

        Nickypoo,

Apparently you didn't get the memo on the 11th commandment:

Thou shalt not have a perfect boat.

I know, I'm a picky, pain in the ***, know it all boat owner. I don't expect perfection but, I do expect some progress on design, not a regress. Tiges at one point were the most comfortable boat on the market. They have completly back slid to almost dead last in my book. It just hurts more because I love my Tige.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

            The 11th...

"Thou shalt not have a perfect boat...but thou shall find the boat that makes the most sense for your family." When I said that it all boils down to compromises, it means that I don't have the resources to go out and custom design, build and outfit the boat of my fantasies and dreams. Every company has a little different spin or strength. When it all came down to the wire, it was between the Bu and the Tige for us. The compromises that we had to consider were things like interior likes and dislikes, cupholder placement, build of the boat etc... All the things that make sense to you or me when looking at a boat. The Tige for us had the least amount of compromises to be made and met most of the needs that we envisioned when shopping... Is it the perfect boat...no...is it a great boat that we are going to enjoy in a big way... You bet!!!

BTW, the bow seating in the Tige was hands down the most comfortable of any of the many boats that we looked at. Guess where my wife has claimed a seat... The observer and "corner" locations are also very comfortable in the new Tige... Just my .02

That's EXACTLY how we felt! Our 01 23V had a SWEET interior. Comfortable, easy access to the storage under the seats, etc., etc. I liked our Milineum (sp?) Dash too. I didn't care at all for the 06 interiors. We really did want to buy another Tige!

Nah, you're just saying what many of us are thinking. I just couldn't resist.

Seriously, that's why we still have our boats. Personally, I haven't seen enough to warrant a trade-in on a newer model, especially for the money they charge. I agree with your assessment of the interior, it's quite a step down from the one in my boat. Having said that, I did like the following that I don't have now:

                - stainless cup holders (very nice, perhaps I can retrofit some to my boat)
                - The ledge (not sure what to call it) that has built-in storage for gloves and a small cooler in the back right above the platform
                - ballast tanks built into the hull (I hate the trade-off between ballast and storage that most of us have to make)

Like I said, not enough to shell out the $$ for a new one.

Somebody asked what I liked about the Malibu so I'll try and keep this short. Basically the overall design and lay out. When you sit behind the wheel, the Malibus feel like a sports car with a ton of leg room. Tige feels like a minivan. The open bow; Malibu's are big and wide and long. Tige, short, narrow, small. The rest of the seats, hmmm, how do I describe this. With the Malibus you sit IN them, with the Tiges you sit ON them. Access' to the storage in the Bu's are huge and easy to deel with. Tige puts up good numbers for cubic feet but, could it be more difficult to get to? I know the Bu's are wood framed and that's not too cool but, I honestly don't see why the Tiges can't be improved on greatly. I know this is nit picky but, cup holders. I counted 19 in the 247. I think there was 11 in the 24Ve. They're not just for drinks. They become great little "lockers" if you will, for your guests. A cup holder will perfectly hold a set of keys a wallet and a phone. That and they are not all on the floor. The 24 Ve has no accessable areas in seat backs along the sides. Just what is that area being used for? Damn it, I has trying to keep this short. I could go on and on about the short comings of these things but it would go on for days. Mabey I will segment it out. This is a VERY short list on what I feel should be fixed. My appologies if I offend the creator of this lay out but I couldn't disagree with you more on what an interior should be.

I'm with you on the cup holders, and I wish that the speakers weren't on the floor either. I wish they'd put them in the gunwales ( is that what that's called ?)

Just curious, I'm 6'7" and found the bow to be far more spacious than most other boats, what boat were you looking at and comparing?

19 cup holders seem a little excessive to me. Just more places for crap to collect. If you have to store stuff in those then you need a bigger boat any way.
I'm on a boat man. I got my flippy floppies....

Tige 24ve, 22i, 21i, Malibu 247, 23lsv, 23xti, 21xti, MC X45, Supra 24SSV, Centurian Enzo and, as always, 2000 22i. Didn't really bother with the Nautweek as they are always small everywhere inside. No MBs in this region. Didn't check the Sangers either.

On another note, biminis. Hinged biminis that is. Supra's new bimini is badass. Light weight, big, sturdy and easy to use. Absolutly beautiful design. Malibu had one on their 23lsv w/ the illusion tower. That thing is going to kill somebody. Way, way, way over engineered. I guess it would be good if your transporting an elephant on top of your tower. Sheese.

I was happy to see the construction methods used by Malibu to produce the 247. I thought I would submit some pictures of our construction methods so that you could see some clear differences. Our top deck does not stop after 6 inches of interior turn. It completes to the floor where it is fiberglassed to the floor.

This is another picture of the continuation of our top deck in the port rear cockpit

Compare the transom thickness of the tige compared to the Malibu. The difference is obvious.
