    Hail no

Have any of you that park your boats outside experienced it being hit with large hail (inch or more)? Did it crack the gel coat?

On the west coast it was never an issue leaving the toys in the garage and parking the pickup on the drive. Since moving to tornado alley I've started to rethink things. I'm thinking that the hail would do far more damage to a metal car than to thick fiberglass... My metal sided travel trailer took some 3" hail last year to one side and looks like I drove it through a golf ball driving range.

    Thanks!

depending on size it could. there is not as much area as the side of a trailer, but sould still have som minor damages on deck. another thing to think about is windshield, interior will tear if it is older and brittle, cover can tear too if it is large hail.

At the lake we go to there were boats outside when it was hit with golf ball size hail. Messed up the camper trailers bad but the boats were ok.

We had a couple boats get sunk as the grapefruit and softball size hail we had here a few weeks ago blasted through the bottom of the boats. To be fair, it also ripped through the metal roofs on many cars.

Awesome site though seeing the hail bombs fall through the sky from an HD camera the local news chopper had

Baseball size hail can and will chip your gelcoat though.

Dude, you gotta get us a link of that video. Start a new thread with it if you find it. That would rival the boats goign over the dam video.

How and why was a news chopper flying with large size hail falling? Sounds risky to me

                    Thanks for the replies guys!

I've seen some nasty weather flying all over the world, but hail that size is one I hope to never see!... I think it might be the last thing I would see. That's one ballzy chopper pilot considering that the hail can get tossed miles from the shaft of the storm. Post it if you can find a link.

My boat has experienced 2.5" hail without any damage. The cover on the other hand looked like swiss cheese...
