When/where did you last fill up the tank? Could be a batch of leftover winter blend, which can vapor-lock when the temps heat up.

Sounds to me like it's Lake Powell gas if multiple people are having the same issue!

CRAP! Took it out to the lake last weekend, first ride of day, and it was a cool day -> and it didn't start. Topped it off with local gas as well. At WWS now, waiting on a response.

Bummer! I was wondering where you were. I didn't think I could possibly miss you 2 days in a row (actually 3 if you count last night).

I maybe able to help -
Last year at Powell early ride would get sputter and stop and wouldnt start for a while....and once it was getting hot...

Got back to WWS and I had them put on a FRESH WATER filter system and hasn't happened since...it was from all the debris in the water at Powell sitting there collecting over night next to houseboat etc.

They should be able to tell you if it is it as they may see stuff still stuck in there.

              Good luck!!!

We have a 2008 that started having this same exact issue this spring. It would only occur after we ran the boat until it was good and warm, then shut down for 1.5-2 hours. It would start up fine, run for 1-2 minutes and start running very rough or die

After it was determined that it was vapor lock, we started depressing the valve on the fuel rail to let the air out (or just continue cranking until the air pocket pushed through).

The problem has now gone away with no more winter blends. I am going to attempt to have this looked at next winter to see what we can do to alleviate the problem.

Was the debris clogging your intake causing you to overheat? My temps are fine when the problem occurs.

not overheating but definite debris in the intake
                    so what was the verdict?

Have you had any luck diagnosing your issue?
                      -Fuel pump?
                      -Fuel pressure regulator?
                      -or is it vapor locking?

Changed low pressure fuel pump and still had some trouble. Then he changed any loose connections going into the fuel pumps and have not had an issue since.

They changed the LP fuel pump on mine too with the same result. Changing the fuel pickup line to a hard line from a soft line did the trick.
Mine did exactly what yours did and they spent half the summer throwing parts at it before Harvey Smith suggested this. It's run like a top ever since.

My 02 350 merc was having the same problem and people were saying it was vapor lock. Here were the things I tried that at first worked but slowly got worse and harder to start until it wouldn't start at all:

                            - let air out of fuel rails
                            - cooled fuel rails
                            - removed ball from anti-siphon valve
                            - let motor cool over night
                            - cycled ignition multiple times to prime fuel system (you could hear the hp fuel pump turning for a couple seconds each time)

                            Nothing worked.

It would however run fine for a few seconds if we put some fuel in the top of the throttle body. This told me it was somehow not getting fuel even though the HP fuel pump sounded like it was working normal.

Put a new HP fuel pump in and all has been good

The only time my fuel pump kept runninig non stop (after turning key but before starting)was when the relay was bad.

My old fuel pump that was bad still sounded normal and would shut off after a second but it would not actually prime anything.
