Surfing Success

Last night I finally got to attempt surfing with new Enzo bags and ballast system I got from Chpthril over the winter. I get it. Ballast good.
24ve, 10.2mph, Starboard side enzo bag full (~1400#) Taps 4, 3 teenagers (about 450 body weight) in boat. My son and his friend also went ropeless right away. Now looking to upgrade from our 3 yr old CWB Razr to something a little more buoyant for my 6' 200ish frame. Thinking BlueLake or JaMakko.


Also--have now seen 2 different I/O's surfing on our lake: 24' SeaRay Sundeck and 24' or 25' Chapperal. Anyone else seeing I/O's with surfers?

I always have the same problem when trying to go ropeless on a board that is just plain too small. You put so much weight on your front foot that the board just takes on too much water.

yes, and here's why:

When I first started learning, I actually first learned I spent a ton of time real close to the boat, so close in fact that the tip of the board hit the boat. With the way that the boat was weighted and the speed it was going, that was the only part of the wave that could push me. I could forsee falling very close to the boat. Second, what if there isn't speedset engaged and the boat suddenly slows down at same time of the fall or the throttle gets bumped, etc? If the question is could it really happen, I'm sure someone could and will do it.

I have thought about that a bit. I think you could not hit the prop when surfing because the blast from the prop would push your body parts away from the boat. I do worry that maybe if the driver let off the throttle so that the prop jet was less as you fell or something like that.

Despite all of the bagging on it by us inboard owners, I have never seen a proven injury from it behind an I/O. There is that one guys hand that we post over and over, but I have not seen even heard of any supposed injuries. If anyone has any direct knowledge of any, it would be good to publicize.

John, way to go man. Nice looking surf wave you have there. I think a new board is gonna make a huge difference!

The blue lake rocks! I learned on that board and I am now on a 4skim tri fin. My buddy can ride the blue lake w/o rope for ever and he is 220 lbs. Get the blue lake and you will not regret it.

OK - to embed youtube on tigeowners - click the youtube button on the advanced reply screen. This will bring up two sets of brackets with YT inside the brackets. Between the two sets of brackets you want to paste a portion of the video's URL --- only the string of characters that follows the = sign. I highlighted those characters in red above.

I think as long as you had a real driver of an I/O then yes you would NEVER hit it since the driver would keep going before stopping, THAT being said, with an idiot I"m pretty darn sure I could hit it if he stopped then hit the gas.

Does that make any sense at all?
