Right now we only have a Skim board.. ( surf board coming this week)

But we just put the board on the right rear corner of the deck have them old the rope tight and lean back a little. I just start accelerating and they let out on the rope while keeping the nose up...

here is a quick 5 second MS paint job of it

Thanks for the info! The angle off the back platform is a good idea. I had heard of platform starts but assumed the board stayed parallel to the boat with the rider using lots of weight on their front food and gradually backing it off. Your method makes more sense.

I also found it to get newbies out easier if my people ballast moves to the other side of the boat so the swim deck is not as far under the water on the starting side and once they are going have them move back for a better wave.

I have only ever had 1 person so far not get up... well She would get up and out but had no balance on the board and would just fall over.

But this is also why I like the multi-pad knot rope. I have them hold tight with one had the first knot and the second knot with the other hand
so when I start going they can let go with the one hand and easily get further back from the boat by letting more rope out.
The board does sometime hit the boat and scuff it BTW I am thinking of sticking some clear bra on the corner to prevent this...

Sweet idea! I did it from the platform a few times and have been successful. I like the idea of angling a little, just doing it straight has been hard at times. But this week at Powell, the wife thought she should gun it hard and it especially did not go so well. I really need her to drive me more often so she doesn't panic like that.
          Be excellent to one another.

Driving I found for best swim deck starts to start easy on it once slightly going to give it a bit more not so much a hole shot but start off slow once off the deck give it more.

Criticism of my wife's boat driving skill tends to be a delicate matter in our family -- I can't even look at her wrong. I am just very happy that I have a 17 year old now to drive - it has done wonders for our marriage.

When I learned, it was with platform starts. But, we would get the boat going up to speed, then step out on the platform, put the board down, step on with the front, keep straight with the back foot, then put the back foot on the board, and slowly rock back. The hard part is how high you rise when coming off the platform followed by going back down the wave. Its pretty fun, but can drive the women batty.

We have that one and we love it. Not to pricey and gets the job done.

The thing I would caution about starting from the deck, I think it would be illegal in most states, and there is always CO danger when teaching someone that, although probably not really if you do it a lot.

The real danger I have seen with that method is that it is fairly easy to lose your balance and the board goes out from under you and then you smack your head on the back of the boat somewhere that can do real damage. If you do start from the deck, which I don't recommend, I would suggest you wear a wakeboard helmet. It won't protect your face if you faceplant on the deck, but its gotta help.

I always get worried that something like this would cause a law that would make Wakesurfing tough to do.

On the surfrope, mostly preference, but we very much prefer the small handle rope. Teaching people without a handle is a lot harder. Also, the one we like, and we have tried many, is the Accurate one with the soft rubber pads that a rider can choke up on.

                              http://www.perfski.com/Wakeboards/Wa...dle-Combo.html

The inland surfer small handle rope is also VERY nice, just doesn't have the soft rubber choke handles.

We have done probably 400+ hours of surfing on the small handle rope and have never seen any issue with the handle and the rider. We are careful to always pull the rope in quick when the rider lets go.
