The knotted one is really heavy when wet and I lost both end caps on the handle the first day. The small handle with the 20' main line w/ the foams is by far the best set up I've owned.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Makes sense, we've been lucky so far, the rope only lets you get the the front/middle of the pocket. I guess more rope/slack would exacerbate the issue ?

I might look into getting that straight line rope, i like the mini handle, and for me I only use the rope for the first 30 seconds so.

IMO, the heavier you are, the more you need the handle, espcially for a white collar guy with wimpy hands, like me. At 240, it takes more to pull me out of the water than my hands on a knot can handle.

I fell with a full size and put my arm through it. Believe me, we never used a full handle for surfing again. I was fortunate that it only went part way up my forearm and only left me with a nasty bruise. You can see how if you get in up to your elbow or further you could really do some damage.

we really like our straight line T-bar handle rope.. its got some knots so you can work up into the pocket but also a small t handle on the end that helps when getting up
Here's to swimming with bow-legged women

                        surf rope

we use a proline with the tee handle in it and it works really well for all levels of surfers.

We've been using an O'Brien with just the knots and pads. It is hard on the hands, and has proven a bit harder for noobs to learn with. I just ordered the Ronix pictured above.

Can you walk through the process of a platform start? There are several in our crew that have a real problem getting up out of the water. This might help.
