    HELP !!! BOAT IS UNDERWATER

MY BOAT WAS STORED FOR A YEAR OUTDOORS (BECAUSE OF NEWBORN BABY) AND RAIN WATER IS IN THE CABIN AND MOTOR COMPARTMENT,WATER REACHED TOP OF THE CAPTAINS CHAIR..

LONG STORY SHORT: STORED AT FRIENDS CAR DEALER (HE CLOSED AND HAS NO INSURANCE OR MONEY),PLASTIC TARP EITHER BLEW AWAY OR WAS STOLEN, TIGE BOAT COVER DID NOT HOLD WATER WELL, WE HAD WONDERFULL RAIN FALL THIS WINTER IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA .....

DIDN'T HAVE INSURANCE AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO...OR WHERE TO START

I FIGURE ENGINE 5.7L ,ELECTRICAL ,RADIO,CARPET,UPHOLSTERY AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE IS RUINED....

WHEN I SAW THE CONDITION OF MY BOAT I NEARLY HAD A HEART ATTACK!! TO THIS DAY THE PIT OF MY STOMACH STILL HURTS, THIS IS A TREMENDOUS FINANCIAL SETBACK FOR ME...

I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START, WILL I NEED A NEW ENGINE, IS THE BOAT WORTH FIXING TO SELL? OR SHOULD I SELL IT AS IS?

ALL ADVICE AND GUIDANCE IS WELCOME AND DEEPLY APPRECIATED!!

Was the drain plug left in it?

Wow, you will have to drain the water (obviously) and then start to trouble shoot. IMO, there is going to be a ton of work to do and money to be spent. Sorry to hear about that.

Obviously be sure to change all the fluids before you even attempt to start it.

Change all the fluid, new battery, fire it up and see how it goes! You certainly wont do any further damage. As long as the ECM and cluster did not get flooded, the rest is cheap to replace in the grand scheme of things

            Sorry to hear, ood luck!

I would drain and replace all the fluids, get a new battery and see what turns on/starts..... Also try and let all the electrical stuff "dry out" before hooking up the battery etc.

It MIGHT be ok, let it dry out then hook up a new battery.... Maybe use some compressed air as well, and some electrical cleaner.

I have seen submerged control units recover after they are dried off... Some times ( usually they get corrosion build up and thats what ruins them)

Also pull the spark plugs out and turn it over by hand make sure you don't have water in the cylinders if the motor is not ruined yet that will destroy it..

Have any pictures? The interior depending on how bad could possibly get cleaned up?

When I opened this thread I figured it was going to be some one that left the drain plug OUT not in.....

O ya it also sounds like people that have left the drain plug out and got the started submerged in water it usually goes out within a few months.
