    Alternator

We had the trip from hell. First of all there was wind gust of 60 mph while down at Lake Powell. Second of all we were 45 miles from the nearest marina and my alternator quit working. I made it to bullfrog and got the boat on the trailer. I have a 2007 RZ2 with the Marine Power 5.7. I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the alternator going out?

Sorry to hear about your trip! Failed alternators is not a common problem posted here, especially on 3 yr old models. What were your symptoms and what options and added on accessories does the boat

My symptoms started as we were motoring away from the house boat and the stereo was cutting in and out. I thought this was just a hot amp. As we continued the volts were slowly falling from about 12.9 to 12.8 and so on. As we got to about 12.4 the stereo cut out completely. At this point I shut everything down as to save the battery for the motor. As the volts crept further and further down the gauges stopped working. Not long after the gauges quit, I got an alarm that did not stop until I got the boat on the trailer. As for extras I just have the kicker set up from the dealer, nothing out of the ordinary.

To diagnose the problem I put a jump box on the batteries and got the motor running and put a multi-meter on and the alternator and was showing .5 volts coming off. I am back in Denver now and will have the alternator rebuilt on Tuesday and hopefully be up and running by this weekend.

I have seen more failed MP engines than just the alternator.

It was windy for sure. Sorry to hear about the alternator. LP is not the place you want to have problems. Glad it worked out.

Where were you checking the charge of the alternator at? The battery? Do you have the dual battery option? If so, did you check the charge at that point and make sure the isolator isn't failing?
