Clanking While Underway in the Dead Center of 21ZX

Just took our 2022 21ZX on the maiden voyage this afternoon to try and get more familiar with all of the technology.

lake was very choppy and no matter where I put the taps, or if I had the ballasts filled or not, the boat was being rocked and popping and dropping off waves, in my opinion, worse than expected.

to make matters worse, where my left foot was as I was piloting the boat, there was some terrible clanking underneath the subfloor. I’m not sure how far toward the front of the boat the gas tank goes, but when I stuck my head where the bilge drain plug is after removing the trash can, I couldn’t see a damn thing.

the best way to describe it would be the sound of metal, or something very hard, hitting up against fiberglass when we’d drop off a wave. I can’t imagine it would be the hull hitting the water that would make that sound. I’ve boated all my life and I know that kind of sound.

any thoughts from anyone? Or at least how to achieve a smoother ride while underway? All the sales guy said when we were in the buying process was how well this boat would take chop with the weight of all the ballasts it had.

How fast were you going? These boats cruise best in the low 20mph range and less in heavy chop. No ballast taps 1-3 range. No wake boat is meant for fast crusing

I know you said it was by your feet but a common issue is the windshield rattling where the center closes together. To get access to fuel tank area you can actually lift the entire floor up via 2 screws at the front of that panel. But if you just bought it with warranty have the dealer take a look.

My boat is an old 2003 so this is likely not applicable but…
When the fuel tank is nearly full and the water is rough I occasionally hear the float from the fuel sending unit clang against the top of the fuel tank. You can feel and hear that float bang the tank and watch the fuel gauge move around at the same time.

I was going between 18 and 25 mph just working through the transmission and the taps.

see, I thought the windshield too but it was really evident under my left foot in center of boat.

I even filled the ballasts to try and weigh it down.

don’t get me wrong, I understand these aren’t for jetting around but I was a little taken back how bumpy it really was
