    Should I? FAE on an 08 22Ve

I've heard so much on the positive side regarding the FAE system. So much so that I almost pulled the trigger a couple of nights ago.

As the title says, I have a 2008 22Ve I purchased a month or so ago. Had her out a handful of times and have had no mechanical trouble up to this point. This is my first V drive boat, all others have been I/O.

I've read on other forums people have had some issues with the FAE (admittedly on boats with other powerplants). My main question is this: are there any others here with the MarinePower 340 MPI that can vouch first hand for the effects of the FAE? Positive or Negative. Some of the negative comments I've read are stumbles off idle and rough idle. Some have speculated top end power loss, but I'm not so sure I buy into that unless I hear it from you guys.

    Thanks!

I highly recommend going with an FAE, I had No engine issues like you described.

      Cucv,

What boat did/do you have the FAE on and which setup did you go with?

I see you went with the one piece design. What was the install like? It almost looks like you mounted over top of the existing exhaust outlet. Did you do the install yourself?

Yes, I installed it myself treading water with the boat on the lift. So, I made it harder than it had to be but a pretty easy task if you are comfortable with screwdrivers wrenches and drills. You remove the existing exhaust outlet and add the FAE flanges in the same location. I'd say the most important part is to get good dimensions to FAE.

Did you have to do anything from the interior of the boat? I'm a pretty decent mechanic, I'm more interested in the time commitment of the install and less about the skill requirement. I saw a video online where some backing plates were being installed from the bilge area which looked pretty cramped.

I put one on a 2096 20V and had same
motor! Only regret was not doing it sooner. I did the one pice blended welds. I also added flappers

What made you go with the flapper upgrade?

Just in case kindA feeling…there’s nothing to it when it comes to installing.

2007 22ve / marine power 340 owner here, I haven't experienced any of the negatives you have listed. The boat is so quiet with FAE it's astonishing. I have the single piece exhaust with no extra supports. There is no going back to a boat without one.

No external supports huh? Did you do the install yourself? I'm trying to figure out what kind of time commitment I'm looking at. Not just for the physical install but downtime due to cure times on sealant as well. Have any info on that?

I fabbed up my own FAE on my 21V and added a support from the FAE to the middle swimdeck support. Makes it easy to remove the swimdeck when needed. I couldnt imagine surfing behind a boat that didnt have a FAE, so much quieter and no fumes.

After hearing the testimonies here and speaking with FAE today on the phone... I'll be placing my order tonight.

The owner is a long time supporter of wakesurfing and a heck of a nice guy. FAE is the best stereo upgrade ever and the best surfing upgrade after ballast.
