    RZ2 Pitcture Request

Can someone post a few pictures for me of the cushion over the cooler opened up on an RZ2? Specifically the hinge and how and where it is attached to the seat and fiberglass.

Reason I ask for this is because on the 22Ve this cushion is not hinged like the RZ2 and is a real nuisance because it will not stay put. If you sit on it, it comes loose and if you step on it towards the the front of the cushion be prepared to eat some carpet.

I would like to add one of those slide out and hinge open hinges to it, and if anyone has a link or part# that would help immensely.

    Thanks!

I'll try and remember to get a picture this weekend when I'm on the boat (for the first time this year )

If the wind dies down before dark, I will go uncover mine and get a picture.

            Guma,

We had the same problems and just had the fastener material replaced under warranty. Let us know if you find the hinge works on the 22Ve.

Guma, this is one of the "little things" that kept pushing my wife toward the RZ2 instead of the Ve. I'm not saying you made the wrong decision, but that I hope the added hinge works for you, because we love ours.

One thing I noticed about those hinges is that there is a pin that runs through the length of the hinge that like to try to wiggle out. Keep track of that from time to time.

Yep! That pin is also on the port side seat too and it works its way out and binds up the seat from opening easily.

The lockers have the same pin for the hatch that also sneaks out every once in awhile.

^^^ditto on the pin creeping out.

I think I have seen those hinges at westmarine

Got my dealer looking to get me one from Tige. I searched around quite a bit but could not find a hinge like this online, so I asked them to get me one. I could find just your regular piano hinge, but not one that had two hinges like in the pics.

wallacmc - Thanks for the heads up on the pin, and I will make sure to keep an eye on that.

A good point was brought up. the RZ2 fiber glass has that small recess for the hinge to sit in, where the Ve does not. I am thinking instead of the recess in the fiberglass, to make the recess on the underside of the seat. I can take a plunge router with a straight cut bit and clear out about 1/4" of material to help the seat sit level once it is all done.

I'll keep you guys posted for anyone else with a Ve who may be interested in doing this.

One more question - I am going to ask my dealer about this when I take it in next week for 20hr service, but maybe you guys can answer before then. The fastener material on the bottom of the seats and on top of the fiberglass, is this supposed to be hook and loop (velcro). On our seats and fiberglass, both are the hook material. Seems kind of odd because they don't seem to attach and hold in any way.

Guma - maybe they changed methods on the 2010 boats, but the seats on our '09 without hinges are held in place by little rubber blocks attached to the underside of the seats. They basically just slide down past the lip of the fiberglass to keep the seats in the right position. We have no velcro.

Yea I have those blocks too, but they don't seem to hold it in place. All the other seats hold in place just fine with those little blocks.

RZ4 is a little different. It has a storage space at the end of that seat which helps to keep it from moving since its a bit wedged in.

In your case, velcro or a hinge is the only way to go.
                              Bad decisions make good stories.
