    Tige Surf Gates

    Here is a write up on what I have been doing to add a Malibu type gate system to my 24v. I picked this style based off of others findings and the fact that I wanted a better or the same wave as my boat with a Nauticurl suck gate.

    My controller is a left over Lectrotab one. It was made for a now defunct company that was making and installing surf systems. It's gps driven and fully automatic.

    The gates are designed off of Malibus with some dimensions changed slightly for my 24v.

    The gates drawn in fusion, then cut locally on a cnc machine. They are 3/4 HDPE. My hull has a grey tone to it, so I picked the dolphin color.

    I will be using the longer throw lenco rams, since I want to match the same angle of my suck gate.

      That cool man! I’ve always wondered what a gate version would change on my boat. Don’t forget to put wave pictures up when you get it out. I definitely wanna see.

        I like it! Always found that gates work better on lighter boats as you're limited on the weight you can add. Gates definitely create a different shaped wave compared to tabs but not in a bad way.

          I wouldn't call my 24v light, it's probably the heaviest boat of it's era by a margin. I run around with 3-4k in ballast. Pretty much everyone I talked to that used a nauticurl or similar that went to tabs said the wave got worse.

              I have a 2012 RZ4 and use the Nauticurl as well and told my kids when all can do a 360 I would consider getting the GSA surf system. I would be broken hearted to have a smaller wave moving to their system. What we have now we are all very happy with.

                For the most part GSA shapes the wave and creates the "pocket" (where the "push" is located), and has little, if any impact on the size of the wave. In my experience, the wave size is mostly about displacement, and GSA has been a clear step up from original taps plates (1st generation taps3) in creating a wave with more push, larger pocket, and different shape (better, IMO) in a 2018 R23 (Z3). Gated waves are good as well, and I'd say if you're happy with the nauticurl, stick with it. Your kids probably won't notice much difference. If you want to add some meat, add ballast.

                  I don't think I can add meat without a new motor. I have dual rear 1850s and dual bow 450s. Then 200-300 in lead (I can't remember that one)

                    Seems like your front to rear ballast ratio is way heavy in the rear. Adding front ballast will actually drive your rpms down. Work towards 40/60 % ratio and you could see a 500rpm reduction in rpm or more. Let the whole hull do the work. Wake cleans up easier too.

                      I am running a custom 5 blade prop I helped develop with acme. I surf around 2900-3100 rpms. The engine is happy

                      I currently do stern surf side full and stern offside 50% or so. Then bow full. Bow bags maybe fill 50% of that weight. Than 200-300 in lead in the nose of the bow. I have so much time into tweaking this boat wave and dialing it in. It’s very good at the moment. I do move people though and on big crew days I put 2-3 in the bow and dump water.

                      Taps around 3-4

                      Whoever came up with the 40/60 rule didn’t know what they were talking about.

                      Bow water 450
                      Bow lead 200
                      Stern surf side (estimating actual fill weight) 1500
                      stern offside 750

                      2900-3000 pounds of ballast.
