Leaving ballast onboard?

Does anyone know the current geographic range of these little critters? I'm sure it is possible everywhere, with boats that launch in various places. Just curious what the current area or areas of the country these little guys exist.

Anything in the eastern states?

Not trying to hi-jack the tread, since it was mentioned I am now wondering about it.

I'll not be doing it ever again! I didn't put the trailer in deep enough and when I went to relaunch both back bunks came off with boat. Bolts pulled out while launching.. Bad day.... less stress on everything if there is less weight. If ya got time to go to the lake ya got time to sit and talk while water is pumping out.... IMHO
