Even though the soldiers in the video haven't fallen, it is important to remember why most of us (at least in the U.S.) get a 3-day weekend and have the freedom to get out on our boats and enjoy time with friends and family.

Thank you! I get to see my daughter and son in law this weekend. He is a submarine officer and they are stationed in Norfolk, VA (we are in TX). They are expecting our first grandchild. Few realize what they sacrifice for him to serve this great country of ours. We are so looking forward to seeing them as he was deployed for over 8 months this last year with obviously very limited acess to phone or internet. Can't wait to see them and they can't wait to hit the lake. A big thank you to all the families whose sons, daughters, fathers and mothers who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can have the life we have in this great country. Thank you again for your sacrifice.

That is good. could not help to have tears come down my face when all the kids saw their dads. My dad is resting in the Riverside National Semitary and this holiday has great importance to me. If you never have seen a National Cemetery on this day it is worth going just to see even if you don't know anyone resting in one. You will have a much more profound understanding of this sacrifices made for this country by all those who serve in the military whether passed on or alive as well as those who every day protect us on the streets and in our own neighborhoods.

Like many others I decided to go into the USMC instead of college. I viewed it at the time to join the USMC as a priveledge to join and serve.

I admit to my referencing the Corps as Uncle Sam's Mickey Mouse Club. Morning Musters, fire watches and a host of other tasks assigned to the enlisted Marines as silly and petty. Their was a purpose to build discipline using these tasks but personally I would have preferred learning more and doing my job as I marched up in rank.

Although I don't remember all my old leadership points for which da.bell is kind enough to remind me, some odd thirty years ago I was and still am very proud of being part of the USMC. I served 3 years active and 3 years as a reservist in the early seventies. The USMC was a defining set of moments in my life and many are still with me as once a jarhead always one.

I am very proud of the generations of volunteer Marines and Army personnel in the Gulf and thank them and their families for the sacrifices made each and everyday. To many Marines their mission is to keep their men safe and not left behind.

Memorial Day is meant to remember past and present military personnel who have given us their life for freedom not just here but globally. Past and present Marines put their families thru rough times each time they are deployed. The not knowing is a bitch.

To our military personnel, past and present all I can say is thank you and SemperFi. God Bless and try to be safe.

Thanks for sharing that video. I must admit that it brought tears to my eyes seeing the home comings.

This Memorial Day is even more meaningful to my family. We lost my father-in-law this past March. He was a well decorated pilot in the Navy and flew for the Blue Angels in 50's. His stories are of bravery and sacrifice, but also of love and compassion.

To all who served and are currently serving in the military a huge "Thank you"! I can't imagine the sacrafices today's military families make to keep us safe here at home.
