Clarion XDM3, speaker, and amp set up

I recently had a subwoofer, a 4-channel Fusion Amp. and tower speakers added to my stock Clarion stereo system in a 24v. I requested that the installer make it so that the tower speakers had seperate volume from the boat speakers and the subwoofer. My objective was to have the music loud in back for the rider and a little less loud in the boat for conversation or at least have that option. When I got the boat back, there is no seperation between the subwoofer, boat speakers, or tower speakers. The installer told me that I need to purchase a stereo with 3 Preouts to operate the three areas (boat speakers, tower speakers, and Sub) seperately. I have talked to other installers, all of whom specialize in car audio, and most of them have been stumped on how to seperate the three areas. Since I am a rookie to boat audio systems, does anyone have any suggestions on how to wire a stereo and amplifier for good sound that can be controlled seperately?

I had the same problem. In order to hear the stereo while riding, the passengers had to get blasted. What I ended up doing was connecting the tower speakers to the rear fader (by themselves) and everything else on the front.
This seems to work pretty well, except that it has to be reset on every outing since I shut off the batteries at the end of each day.

You will need some kind of device that will allow you to split the volume. I have not seen anything like this for a boat yet, but this is what you will need. 6-pair speaker selector with volume control

This is used for home audio, but it allows you to seperate the speakers and control the audio for each set of speakers. This could be something that works.

If your interior speakers are on one amp, and the tower speakers on another... then you can just turn the gain up or down on the amps. Otherwise, you are out of luck.

Here's what I've done. There is a unit called an lc1 that you can put on your RCA jack that will independently control the volume on that output. I used a splitter to get sub and cabin speakers from one output, and then the other output to the tower speakers. I had for some time only one LC1 to the tower speakers, but then i couldn't turn down the interior speakers with the tower speakers on, so now I have LC1's for sub, cabin and tower speakers. As soon as I dare, Iwll drill holes in my dash and mount them. They will look very nice.

I got a clarion passive equalizer that has a overall volume control, subwolfer volume control, fader and of course a equalizer. One of the best things was that it was refurbished so it was only $15. I did some creative re-aranging with the rca's and had to change some switches on the amps and it allows me to adjust the intensity of the sub, and the fader splits the tower and the boat speakers. It is as easy as turning a knob instead of going thru a menu on the head unit. I put it laying on its side facing out in the compartment where the amps are. I had to make brackets for it because they were missing. It is also nice to adjust the tone easily too. If you need to know how I hooked it up let me know, but there are probably a couple of different ways.
