    Steering cable question

I can turn my steering wheel with one finger when the boat is out of the water, but it is very difficult when under speed. I have a fresh air exhaust and it goes down very deep and is about 8 inches away from the rudder. I am wondering if I need a new cable or is it my fresh air exhaust that is making it difficult to turn. I will try angling my fresh air exhaust out a way from the rudder and see if it makes a difference. Also, anybody know the length of cable for a 2000 2300V?

Get under the boat and grab the rudder with both hands and see if there is any play in the rudder port, when my rudder port was worn it felt easy on the trailer but would bind from the prop thrust, after replaceing the rudder and port it was cured.

Good tip! I will try that and see what happens.

I did find on another post that my cable length is 17 feet. I am replacing the helm and the cable since Morse is no longer around. It was slipping a few years ago and I did a Larry-lash-up by adding spacers to eliminate slipping. I am sure it is the original cable and wouldn't hurt to replace it.
