    2000 22i w/5.7 merc mpi

Have recently been restoring a 2001 tige 22i I picked up on trade. After all new injectors, fuel pump, coil, cap and rotor, plugs, wires and more the most I can get out of the boat is 3800rpms and 36mph. Is that normal? Feel like it should have a better whole shot and better top end. Any input especially from owners familiar with this boat would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, welcome to the site and the Direct Drive holdouts. See if you can figure out what prop you have on there. The numbers are usually stamped into the center of the prop hub.

have you confirmed fuel pressure at the rail with a gage?? Regulator could be an issue. Bilge staying dry or do you have a bunch of water in the bilge?? Some of those DDs had long fiberglass exhausts that start to leak and fill the bilge with water

The fuel pressure is good at 30ish plus. Definetly do get water in the boat. Could definetly be something with the exhaust I just don't know anything about these exhaust systems.

Elevation shouldn't be a problem here in mid michigan, prop is a 525 13X11.5 which I know nothing about but seemed to be right from what I dug up on the web? Timing is good checked that with a light. Not sure what you mean by growth? Thanks for the response!

By growth he means stuff growing on the bottom of the boat. Adds resistance.

Excess bilge water can make the boat too heavy and struggle....

Other common leak is the shaft seal.

Have you done a compression check??

No growth, boat is trailered and freshly waxed. Issues are consistent from right off the dock dry and later when it does have some water in it. Compression checked out good 180ish. Computer test went well, no codes being thrown. Boat has 288 hours

Yes I was checking speed with GPS on my phone, injectors are all brand new oem $$$$$. Fuel pressure is at spec on the guage at the rail. Gapped the new plugs myself.

Hmmm not really following because I'm not to familiar with timing. From what I was told I had to have the computer in to put the computer into base time mode. I adjusted it to about 8 degrees. Computer says spark advance is at 10 degrees.

Gumby's right, either set the base timing to 8* BTDC with the diagnostics computer connected and set to base timing mode OR unplug the connector and raise the rpm to 1100. We just had a similar issue with a customer's boat, 97' Tige, with a hard start or no start condition because the timing was off and had been set without correct procedure.

Also, has the ignition sensor been replaced inside the distributor under the rotor? If it does not have the black ground wire coming off it then replace it as well.
