Second opinions welcome 2021 25zx

Ok so this is my first brand new boat ever. I get that there are issues to be expected with minor adjustments being the norm. However I have had what I believe is more than normal. I am also as meticulous as they come (so I recognize I’m compounding the issues).

Here is the main issue I’m struggling with right now. After the 20 hr. service the windshield wouldn’t close. It was off by like an 1/8 of an inch and a couple screw heads were missing (threads still in place). Dealer told me that the windshield won’t close when the boats on the trailer (I called BS and confirmed it still wouldn’t close when I was on the water). They took it in for service and long story short say that in order to fix it they need to drill new holes and re-mount the entire windshield. I’m not in love with the idea of having them drill and fill holes.

walk me off the ledge if you think I’m being too critical. But either way let me know your thoughts on what you would think I should do.

thanks

If this is chronologically correct, then ask the dealer what happened while the boat was in their care, custody and control. Not saying is was done intentionally, boat a windshield does not go from fitting perfect to overlapping 1/8" just sitting on the trailer getting the oil changed.

With that said, the fix may be to remove and reposition the windshield. For an 1/8", I dont see why both sides need this done though, but im not on the boat.

Funny bc when I asked the dealer about that very thing the service leader said “I don’t know what happened, if anything, all I can say is that this is what we have to do to fix it.” Haha

Also can anyone speak to “ settling” of a boat after 20-50 hours. I have more cracking showing up on the gel coat of this boat then I had on my 24ve in 10 years.

I have a 2021 23ZX and I have an issue with the windshield it catches a tiny amount especially when it gets in the sun and the metal swells when it’s cool it closes not problem. I’m not going to get that upset when this happens on mine I know nothing is perfect but we do spend a lot of money on these boats and want them to be the absolute best they can possibly be. Just know that you aren’t alone I have had both actuators go out on mine had bags blow off fill hoses and flood my boat and then had a water leak on a port side front ballast that was leaking a filling my boat with water. If you have a good dealer like I do they take care of everything for you.

Cuellar thanks for helping to walk me off the ledge a little. I know I’m a tough customer to please and sometimes need to reset my own expectations

Absolutely. I want a great relationship with my dealer so I try to be as understanding as possible. Enjoy your boat we love ours.

Dealer support is huge, and unfortunately mine is terrible. You’re going to have issues, unless you really luck out on a perfect boat. In my opinion, the quality, and speed during the summer months, of their repair work can make or break your experience with a particular boat. I can give you an absolutely laundry list of stuff that I’ve had to take to my dealer. Some was repaired really well, some was completely denied to the point I thought about calling a lawyer, and some was repaired terribly, to the point where I started doing everything myself, and gave up on having them do anything.

Where do you live, just out of curiosity?

25cents I get your frustration(s). I'm just a tech, not an owner. That being said I get that you made a luxury purchase, at luxury prices, and would expect luxury service on the backend of the sale.

It is odd the your walkthru window developed an interference fit after delivery if it was never an issue. You mentioned "couple screw heads were missing (threads still in place)." Would this be on the port or starboard side?? Also, are these broken screws where the stanchions meet the window frame or where they stanchions screw to the glass below at the walkthru??

ALL OF THE ABOVE ASIDE...Does the boat boat go forward, backwards, steer easily, fill ballast, generate a surf wave, play music, light up courtesy lights and or RGBS etc?? Not trying to set the bar low at all especially for a purchase of this nature. Just asking if the boat can boat. If the walk thru window won't close it IS an issue. Is it an issue that ruins your summer??

@freeheel is 1000% right. I live with anything to get through my summer, and deal with any bs in the off season, especially right now, with parts being unavailable, and dealerships being weeks and months out. Unless my boat is going to sink, or not start, anything is better than not having a boat during the summer.

I’ve had close to that issue. 2018 r23. Windshield was installed wrong. So wrong it shattered under pressure. I got the replacement which didn’t fit the original mounting holes so I had to drill new ones. There is definitely something wrong with their mounting procedure. It’s obviously not on all boats but it’s not 100% right.

Oh. And I had to pay the entire bill. They denied my claim.

What dealer do you use?

On my previous boat, I had a tongue jack fail and the trailer drop about 2ft to the ground. This drop was strong enough to flex the hull such that the windshield closed past where it should stop and bent some of the aluminum frame. I say this as a potential way your windshield could have been damaged. Dealers routinely use fork lifts to move boats trailers around, so……..I’d inspect bottom of tongue/trailer/wheel of jack for signs of a big impact.

The summers are always busy for the hard working fellas in the shop! This summer is even busier because of increased boat sales, increased usage of existing owners, and decrease /slowing of parts because of COVID-19. I say this so you can give the shop a little slack assuming they are telling you the truth about your boat.

Zackdogg and freeheel4life are spot on, a windshield that won’t close should be the last thing that you really need to have a good boating experience this summer. Get the beautiful boat on the water and don’t look back until this off-season. It’s suck to not have the boat in perfect condition as I too struggle with the same mindset as you, guess what? You will ding, scratch or damage something on the boat yourself, so 2-3 years from now the repaired windshield will be a distance memory as compared to that dock rash you put on the boat!

Given what CHPThrill said,
I would struggle with the windshield issue immensely…
I took mine in to the dealer once for a simple warranty repair. Never again. I’d rather pay for parts and do it myself then have someone else do it. These shops need to start being held responsible for the garbage work that they do.
Unfortunatly the only way to do it is to do a complete walk down and inspection of the vessel with the technician prior to work being done including photos and have them sign a whiteness sheet. They deny any problem they may cause.
It’s just more trouble than it’s worth IMO.

appreciate the insight. The screws issue was one on the starboard stantion at the boat not the window and another on the hinge of the window itself on the port side.

I totally understand the position of does the boat float and function as a boat first and foremost. It absolutely does. I think I have lost a fair amount of confidence in the team that is supporting the boat for the following reason

super long story short- after my 20 hour service I got in the water and had oil spewing all over the engine bc the service team didn’t properly seat the oil filter. Almost cost me an engine. I was towed in and they worked to make it right. But since that time there have been a ton of little issues and so I was seeking advice from the TO community to help reset my own expectations.

I understand that issues occur but to have so many occurring in succession after their service has me concerned.

love the boat and would gladly buy another today.
