I have had my 2021 Z3 for 3 weeks now. The surf wave is outstanding!! I demoed a 2021 ZX 23 at the end of last summer and didn't think it was as good as my buddies 2016 Z3 with extra ballast. I was very nervous ordering a brand new model as I had the ASR in the back of my head. I recently have surfed the 2021 ZX23, 2020 ZX25 and 2020 G23 and my new Z3 has a better surf wave than all the above in my opinion. Everyone who has surfed my new boat is blown away by the quality and size of the wave. I'm not saying the ZX23 isn't a very nice boat but the new Z3 is superior in handling and Surf Wave and I love the overall fit and finish. I loaded it up with all options including the 460 raptor and absolutely love this boat. I highly recommend anyone looking to upgrade their boat to try the Z3 out if you are able. You will not be disappointed.

Congratulations on the new boat and welcome to the site. I realize we all have our own opinions, and you were just sharing your own experiences. I also realize the new Z3 is getting rave reviews. With that said, I owned a 2015 Z3 with extra ballast, 1100 pounds in lead, and GSA. I now own a 2020 ZX23. If you thought the Z3 produced a better wave, I have to think whoever was setting up the ZX23 you demoed wasn't setting it up properly. The 15 Z3 produced a great wave, no doubt... but it's not in the same ballpark with the 23ZX. Just my . Good to hear people are loving the new Z3s!

I wonder if the running surface of the new Z3 has changed a lot?

My understanding is that the 2021 Z3 is a completely new hull and shares nothing with the previous Z3/R23 other than the name.

Yes that's my understanding as well. The new Z3 really looks quite the complete boat. Again I'm very new to this brand but just in my research and getting into both boats the ZX seems a much bigger and deeper boat. It has nicer build quality such as much more billet aluminum pats as opposed to plastic in the Z3 but option wise looks like you can get most of all the same things in the Z3 that you can in a ZX and save a little bit of dough new vs new.

Don’t have any experience with the zx23 but I love my Z3. Much better than GS22. Just a great boat. Wave shape is excellent. Pic is my 6’5” son riding the tail end.
