    New 2021 Z3 vs Used 2020 ZX23

Hey Y'all. New to the forum but about to become a Tige owner. Wanted y'alls opinion on something. I am deciding between 2 boats in a used 2020 ZX23 with 130 or so hours on it with all standard features plus a few extra options or a brand new Z3 loaded to the gills with almost every available option. The Z3 will cost roughly $10K more. What do you guys think? Which direction would you go and why?

Do you have more history on that ZX? Why did owner trade in, what kind of warranty was done on it , etc…..I’d be inclined to take the savings in the ZX because the ZX is the flagship series and the Z is the value series. I would have expected the 1yr old ZX to still cost more the Z.

It was originally a demo and then sold at a boat show. The owner traded it in for a new 25 foot centurion. I just can't tell aside from a little bit better fit and finish and less plastic what's the difference between the 2? Yes the ZX has more freeboard but what truly makes the ZX the flagship other then freeboard and less plastic more billet?

Definitely go 23ZX. Bigger boat with nicer features that will hold its value better and costs less up front. The ZX traditionally is heavier optioned than the z just being the flagship. So you will probably have a bigger stereo, engine, power tower, smart wheel, etc.

The ordered Z3 will actually have everything the 23ZX has and then some more including the stern thrusters being the substantial add as well as power tower. Z3 will have standard 400 and ZX will have the standard 440. The 23ZX is about a good 600lbs heavier. Is that mostly just the extra freeboard and overall size of the boat. Dimensions wise Tige states them as being the same yet the 23ZX just seems bigger.

I’m m just surprised those two boats are close in price. Guess the Z is way more expensive than advertised and/or supply being low has its price way up.

Agreed. The only thing I can think of is the thruster and power tower options, but that still has me scratching my head. I don't believe you can go wrong with either boat, to be honest. We have owned a Z3 (2015 though) and a 2020 23 ZX. Both solid boats... but if I had to pick, I would personally lean towards the 23ZX.

I’m being told the Z3 wave out of the box is premo.

                  By a salesman or owner?

No way a Z3 wave is as good as ZX23 wave out of the box. Weight is what makes waves. The ZX23 owner didn’t know how to set it up.

The dimensions you mention are the length, beam, and draft. Those are the same. Of note, though, there is more storage space listed for the 23ZX. How can that be possible, you ask? What is not listed is the amount of freeboard and the height of the boat. Stand next to a Z3 and a 23ZX, and it will all make sense. The difference in size is obvious.

Hands down the 23ZX is a nicer boat and in 2 years will be worth a lot more than the Z3 as you'll be comparing a Z3 with less features to your Z3 all decked out.

We looked at both pretty seriously until we decided on the 25zx. We were upgrading from an 06 24ve. The z3 was nice but really felt so much like our 24ve just with nicer fit and finish. The zx series is awesome. The only thing I wish I added was a thruster but that can be added later and hopefully for less.

personally it’s no comparison. I would snag up that zx as quick as you can.

Thanks for the feed back guys. We decided to roll with the Z3 simply because we can build it to our specs. I really like the thrusters plus a big thing was that the 20 ZX23 doesn’t have the flip up transom seating. The ZX is definitely a bigger nicer boat but it was just a little shy on some the things we wanted. Maybe in a few years we’ll just upgrade to a 25ZX

Lots of comments being tossed around about the Z3 from people that probably haven't had any time in one. The Z3 could very well be the best surf boat Tige has out at the time pending weight. If it isnt? Its not far behind the 25ZX and its merely a weight thing. Has nothing to do with me being a dealer. The boat us just that good surf wave wise. Z3 is superior to a 23ZX in terms of surf wave In my opinion and it isn't even close.... It also wakeboards great.

Is it as nice on the inside or deep. Nope. But performance? Cant knock it in any category.
