    Shaft seal leak

Hey all. Went out today for the second time since plumbing my ballast. (Huge shout out to Mike @ Mikes Liquid Audio for the parts and support).
Noticed that my bilge was coming on during surfing. Found out my shaft seal flings water at about 3000 rpm. Doesn’t seem to leak when at rest. The ballast pump keeps up with it, bu only when the nose is up for surfing.

I have a bad video of it, but for some reason cannot attached anything new.

Is this something you tighten (like the old packing seals) or is it shot?

    Does it look like this:

If so, there are 2 set screws (in the same hole) that you need to loosen in order to compress the shaft seal more and then retighten both set screws.

As a healthy thing, you have to know how to deal with them still !!!

Yes, it does look like this. Do these work themselves loose? Just curious why it would start leaking.

jackfly the set screws don't come loose on the collar, they deform. When they do the collar walks up the shaft. There should be 2 screws per hole. The first one is a jamb screw. Pull them out. Then pull the lower screws out that contact the shaft. Put the jamb screws back in first, compress collar and tight screws and put the screws that used to be on the shaft in to jamb the lowers.
