I wonder how much heavier an electric motor with batteries would be over a gas engine. Could be good for surfing, not so good for your tow rig.

It seems to me the number/size of batteries that would be required to push upwards of 10,000 lbs of boat and ballast through the water at constantly high RPM would be prohibitive. At least if you expect the batteries to last for even a full morning or afternoon.

I’ve been reluctant to make the switch to an electric car, but I could see myself enjoying a smooth, quiet and powerful electric boat.

      https://nautique.com/models/super-ai...gs22e/overview

^^claim is 2-3 hours of run time per charge. advertised dry weight is 5900 lbs, so would be approx 7600 lbs on a tandem Boatmate. With an MSRP starting at 292k.

My concern is access to batteries for whennits time to replace cells. I would assume they are being built so that boat doesn't have to be split to change the batteries....I hope.

I agree with electric, especially as battery tech gets better. I would do it if I had the coin and I could run 3-4 hours on a charge.

The challenge with electric is if you park on the dock, and you have to run a 60 or 80 amp 208 there... Most marinas are just providing 30 or 50amp 208 at best right?

Supercharging marinas though.... hmmmmm. Business idea?

Supercharger network for boats sounds like a great idea!! Only problem in my eyes would be developing the tech to handshake with your network and getting all the boat manufacturers to buy into your tech. Tesla did well by establishing their charging network and blocking the big manufacturers out.

There is a standard everyone else (Ford, GM, Acura, Porsche) are using. It’s not quite as fast as Tesla but close. (Like 30 min vs 45 for a supercharge)

But I hear you. Plus marinas are usually not in great spots geographically. The cost for electrical is probably high. But I suppose we could charge 150 bucks for a full charge. That’s still 50 cheaper then a tank of gas best case right?

became a searcher, wanting to discover who i was and what made me precise. my view of myself turned into changing. i desired a stable base to start from. i commenced to resist3 stress to behave in ways that i didn’t like any greater, and i used to be delighted by who i in reality become. i got here to feel a good deal extra sure that no one can ever take my region.

Hopefully you’re getting quite a bit more than 3-4 hours out of a tank of gas, though. I’d think it’d probably equate to more like $40 per charge, which is probably fairly fair. Hopefully your marina has a place for a drink and some tacos while the boat is charging.

What about hydrogen fuel cells instead of batteries? Similar model were all used too (a gas pump and a tank - fillup in under 10 minutes)but obviously some significant differences in Infratructure for storage and safety requirements.

Well, they won't be working pretty good when gas stations are gone in 20-30 years.

No worries it will be here 30 years from now. Oil makes the world go round. Damn near everything is made with it in some form or fashion.

Oil may make the world go round today, but that has nothing to do with 30 years from now. What's the percentage of 30 year old cars as daily drivers today? In Washington state they have banned gas in 2030 MY vehicles. That's just 8 years away. I believe GM said they wont have a gas motor by 2030. I'd guess the others are close to that as well. When that happens the demand for gasoline will drop right away. Corner gas stations will start pulling out their pumps and replace them with rapid chargers. Then phase them out all together. You'll be stuck buying drums of 91 like we buy race gas now. Imagine towing your Raptor powered Tige to the weekend house with 3-4 drums of fuel in the back of your truck because the marina dock only has rapid chargers now.
Do you really think this wont be closer to reality in 30 years? Everything will be battery powered. But's that good. You'll still be able to use your pager.

It may be closer to reality in 30 years, but when I am 82, I don't think marina charging stations will be a priority for me. In the meantime, I will keep laughing at the WAY overpriced Nautique with 2-3 hours of use before needing a charge. I am all for positive change, but I am also grounded in reality.

Personally I think the electric boat thing will be the reality and norm within 10 years. So when I'm 52 it will be a big deal.

I also enjoy my time in reality, but since this is a thread about what's next, it's the place to speculate and imagine what's coming.
