    Decal Removal?

I’m thinking about removing the decals from my ‘18 RZX2. They have sustained some minor damage (not terrible) and I think I may prefer the look of the boat without them.

Does anyone have any experience removing these decals? Are they difficult to remove? What do you use to release them? Did it leave behind a residue? Was there a visible “ghost” of where they were due to uneven gelcoat fading?

Also, what is your personal opinion/preference regarding decals vs. no decals??? My wife thinks I shouldn’t remove them. I think it gives a cleaner look without them. I was looking at new 2021 RZX listings and it looks like about a 50/50 split decals/no decals.

We had our decals removed for a heavy detail and decided against replacing them. Liking the clean look so far. 2010 RZ2 - decals were a bit dated. There was ghosting but that was expected due to the age of the boat but a good cut and buff should take care of that. Our Tige' decals were stuck to the boat with tape so yours could be fixed that way as well. We did put those back on. The sticker decals just peeled off.

Yeah only planning to remove the “stickers” not the raised Tige or RZX logos. Those are quite nice. I’m just not that crazy about “stickers” on a $100k+ boat — just personal preference.

I removed mine with the help of a heat gun on low and a plastic razor blade to help lift the corners. I had the huge tribal stickers. Both sides came off with relative ease. Took about 2 hours for both sides.

I then polished the entire boat to help clean up the areas.

                Came out great.

Do it! You won’t regret it.

heat gun, razor blade, dental floss and goof off have helped me debadge almost every car I have owned for the last 20 years.
since your boat is fairly new, get a corner started and a little bit of heat and pulling it off slowly will yield good results. use goof off to clean up the gel, then polish and wax.

                  castleford- that boat looks great.....

3m makes an adhesive removal that works killer. Heat gun is a must. I use tub o towels to kind of clean everything up. If there are decals ghosted into the gel, you can cut and buff them out.

Removed the decals today. Relatively easy with a hairdryer and a small plastic scraper to get each one started. Removed remaining residue with “Rapid Remover” adhesive remover. Took less than an hour. Looks great. Glad I did it.
