    Wakeshaper

Just got my wakeshaper from a Tigé owner that makes these (JJ Spear). I have never used one so I’m looking for suggestions on speed, ballast etc.

My current setup is about 700 rear then another 400 on the seat plus front side ballast half way full (only on the side I’m surfing). Taps at 4-5, speed about 10.6. My current wave with no shaper is steep and big but not long.

Try speeding up to around 11.5, that’ll lengthen the wave a bit.
Lowering your TAPS number a bit will also lengthen it. You’ll sacrifice height to do that though so you’ve got to find a blend of how you like it. I’d also try filling your bow completely.
Personally I use anywhere from 11.5-12.2 depending on how many people are in the boat, TAPS 3-5 regular, 4-6 goofy and favor the surf side with weight/people so you’re still slightly listed and attach the shaper at a slight downward angle.
BTW, my last name is Spear
    Enjoy your shaper Matt!

Is that 700# total for the rear or 700# each rear locker? 10.6 could be a tad slow, resulting in the short pocket.

Ok good suggestions guys, I appreciate it. The 700 is in one rear locker. Full front ballast weight seems to wash it out. I have done 10.8-11 recently but overall the ballast and speed that I posted earlier seems to have the best effect. Im hoping this wake shaper will improve some of it.

          No worries man!
I misunderstood your original post. I thought you had 700 lbs in each rear and a 400 you sat on a seat to increase weight.
The shaper will make it so you don’t have to run listed to extreme angles for that wave but you do want to still run listed a little bit. IMO you’re gonna want more weight for a good wave, most of us have around a 1000 or more in each rear locker and 4-600 in the bow. A lot of people are putting lead wake under their bags and spreading it throughout the boat for a little extra help.

For your existing setup try this-
Put the full 700 in the surf side rear the full 400 in the other rear locker and fill the bow. TAPS 3-4 regular, 4-5 goofy and speed around 11.
The shaper will help a lot with the wave form, especially if you follow these suggestions. The first time you use it the difference will blow your mind.
With your lighter weight you may want to go a touch slower then the 11.5-12.2 I said before.
Adjusting the TAPS (lower number), increasing bow weight, increasing speed will all lengthen the wave.
In my buddies 15 rz2 we fill his bow and his wave is awesome. He is running 3-400 more lbs in each rear locker though.

With a side mounted wake devise, you definitely want to fill both those 700# sides. A slight list is ok, but if the off surf side is too light, then the surf device is not as effective. Need to get it and keep it in the water.

Ok before this wakeshaper I had a huge list. I will try them out and report back.

Ok I started with this setup Sunday and so far its producing good results. I still have some tweaking to do and fine tune it.

Goofy side - Taps 3, Speed 11, surfside rear 100%, opposite rear 75%, front completely empty. 3 adults on surf side.

I tried the front surf side ballast full and it did not look good at all. Maybe I should try experimenting more with the front weight (both sides full)? I also didn't put any extra weight in it yet.

From my own experiences I find goofy loves bow weight. I run my bow sac full in my VE plus I'll had another 200-300lbs on top whereas for the regular side surf set up I run maybe half the bow sac full. Rear set up is similar to yours otherwise and speed isn't far off. I run 11.4mph for reg side and my wife likes 11.6 riding goofy. Taps 3-4.

Ill have to try this bow weight out. I typically only fill one side but never both.
