Is the 23RZX worth it, or will the 21ZX be a better option?

Tige Friends,

New soon-to-be Tige owner here... My wife and I are looking at the 23RZX but there's no storage room and our house isn't built yet, so I'm leaning to get the 21ZX for now but have a few general questions that I'm curious to hear from Tige boat owners:

1) Is the wake of the 21ZX vs 23RZX really that different in volume, length, and overall size?
2) Will the 21ZX feel tight with 9-10 or so adults? I know it claims to seat 14 but curious how tight it'd be or not
3) Will the 21ZX decrease in resale value quicker, slower, or the same rate as a 23RZX?
4) I have an 18' F-150 Ecoboost(3.5) - Anyone else tow with one? Would it tow the 23' or will it struggle?
5) We live in Utah. The summers can be rough and winters of course cold. Because I can't find storage long enough for the 23', if I get the 23' I have to store it outside. Would you rather buy the 21' and store inside or the 23' and store outside (covered and winterized of course)?

Any overall advice for this soon to be boat owner?

I know a lot of the above is subjective, but any help or info is helpful.

I originally thought you meant there’s no storage in the boat, on the RZX, I was blown away wondering what you expect.

I had to store mine outside, one winter and it was hard on it. I would wrap mine, if I were going to store outside again. 10 is about right in the 23, so I’m guessing tight on the 21. We’ve had 17 people in our RZX, but anything over about 12 gets tight. Also depends on the size of the people. Kids take up a bunch less space than I do.

I haven’t surfed a 21, but the RZX wave can be dialed to pretty damn big.

Assuming you’re in the mountains, in Utah, which the ecoboost will tow it fine, but stopping it on big grades can be a little sketch. If I lived in Oklahoma or Texas, somewhere flat, I wouldn’t think twice about using a 150 to tow mine, I wouldn’t tow mine around the Sierras with one. One of my best friends has a g23, which is pretty identical stats on a trailer, and towed his with an ecoboost until this year, and it got the job done, but he switched to a 2500 chevy, because of towing his boat. It’s just a lot for a 1/2 ton. It basically boils down to how far, and what kind of mountains you’re towing in. Towing approaching 10k around, with a half ton is a pretty solid way to wear your running gear out.

I’d always recommend the rzx, but sounds like the 21 might be a better bet for your situation, all things considered.

We tow a 23ZX with our ‘18 F150 EcoBoost 3.5 4x4. It handles it well, but I agree with Zachdogg’s assessment above. If I had to tow up and down steep hills on a regular basis, I’d consider upgrading.

I can’t really help with any of your questions. We just bought our first boat and it gets to Orem next week. We will probably wait a couple of weeks to go unwrap it because of the weather but we are stoked. We went with the 21zx, but basically just because my wife liked the look of it better and you know... Happy Wife = Daddy gets a boat

Storage can be a deciding factor for sure. We originally wanted a 23' but found a 22' is the max in our garage. So went went 22RZX.
We personally liked the pickle fork better as it has more room and the kids love riding up there.
We tow with a '15 3.5 Ecoboost and it gets the job done. The home lake travels are a cinch for sure. The long travels are doable as well but would be little easier on the truck if it were a 3/4 ton. The power is there but the truck is lite so with a good hill and/or wind got to put your foot in it.
Not the exact boat you are looking at but we have put 4 adults, 3 almost adult teens & 2 kids and still had a little more room to spare. Depends on how cozy want to get with everyone.
Pretty sure going to have a blast on either one, and that's an important thing as well.

I owned a rzx3. Stored it outside for two winters in Utah. It was parked under cover so it never had snow on it, but still exposed to the cold. Never had an issue with it or any of our other boats we’ve kept outside. I towed that boat with a 2015 ram 1500 eco diesel. The truck had no issue handling the boat and we were totally overweight. We boat mostly at Willard bay so no hills getting there. But on long trips to Powell or further we just went slower and did just fine. We now have a gmc 1500 gasser. Haven’t towed the boat with it yet. Hopefully it does just as well. The half tons of today are equivalent to the 3/4 tons of 10-15 years ago. I just want the smallest truck that will get the job done safely. Haven’t felt the NEED for a bigger truck yet. Maybe some day.

If you can swing the 23' I would go that direction, having the extra space and bigger wave is great. Towing the 3.5 should be fine, I actually just bought one this fall, curious to see how it handles, have always been in an HD. I know it will be more than enough around town and in the mountains, I can use my father's Duramax. For storage how big of a garage is it? Normally with these boats, you tend to be more limited on height and you also need to consider the added tabs and traier tongue so the 21 will really be 23.

Will the 23ft fit if you pull the swim platform, swing the tongue away and store it at an angle?
