Hello all! I am looking for some advice here. I have a 2005 21i with the 340 hp inboard, direct drive. Last time on the water, The shifter had severe trouble shifting into either fwd or reverse. I would have to force it to continue the day's events. Today, I checked the linkage, which moves freely. I also checked the taps wire to make sure it wasnt pinching. I have determined that the shifter mechanism is working perfectly. However, when I detached the cable from the trans, the trans shifter bracket would not move freely, which I have been told should move freely from neutral to fwd to reverse with the boat not running.
Also, now the engine is not receiving spark to the plugs. I do NOT hear the typical dash chirping/buzzing and priming of the fuel pump. The boat does try to start, and it smells like it is getting fuel (although very little) I have heard there is some sore of spring loaded piece inside the transmission housing which is connected to the Neutral safety switch (nss). Is this my next place to explore? Could these issues be related? My boat will try to turn over if it is in gear, but not start (learned from experience). Thank you for any advice!
