    New Boat owner

Ordered our new boat and also our first ever boat earlier this month. We got a new 21zx and Summer can’t come soon enough especially since it’s not snowing much and the Snowboarding sucks so far. Hopefully winter gets better both for the Riding this winter and the water levels come summer.
Anyways, We are on Utah and wondering when and where we should go down south before our lakes are ready for boating up here? As of now our boat should be here in March. Is there any good lakes for boating in Late March or April that we can drive to for a long weekend trip? Where should we go?
    Thanks

Mead. Itll be good by april. Just watch wind. Its not a fun lake when blowing upper teens to twenties.
You can stay in vegas or put in at overton closer to utah.

We live close to lake las vegas if you ever need a place to park a boat 4 the night. Only 15 min 2 callville and boulder beach.

Thanks. I thought that Lake Mead would be good early. We are planning a trip there in April already, meeting some family from SoCal and it’s close to halfway. I was wondering if there was any other places that were fun. We are so excited for lots of boating this summer. We live close to two small lakes for weekends and after work but can’t wait for a Powell trip. Lived in Utah for 20 years now and have never been.
Thanks for the help and the offer, same to you of you need a place to park a boat in Utah. I’ve heard that the boat community is great and we are excited to be part of it.

Lake pleasant outside of Phoenix is great. Can ride there pretty much year round and depending on where you are in Utah shouldn’t be that far.

Would be there right now if there weren’t travel restrictions for us Canadians
Gets a little chilly in January but come March/April it will be hot.

What do you call hot? 90’s air temp and mid 70’s water temp?

You gotta watch that wind on Pleasant as well. Picks up really fast.

Mid April around Easter air was 80-95 and water was around 65-70. With the dams on that lake the water takes a while to warm up and varies on how fast.

Wind can pick up on that lake but that just means everyone else leaves and there is a cove to hide in.

Both the restaurants at the two Marinas are also great. If you don’t have a slip you can also leave your boat in the parking lot at pleasant harbour.

We try to do Sand Hollow in April. It's still wet suit weather for us, but totally doable and have the lake to yourself, minus a few fishermen.

Willard Bay is our main lake, but we hit up most of the reservoirs around here too. Powell is great. Either the north or south end. We like the south end more as there are more options in page.

I'd highly recommend getting your family into wetsuits. It will allow you to start the season a month early and extend it at least a month. We have been on Willard in April and November.

I’d be be stoked on those kind of April temps. We’re usually riding in mid 50s water and mid 70s air, that time of year. Don’t own wetsuits, and have been pretty close to hypothermia, a few times!! It’s great incentive to never fall off a board, though!! We don’t see 70s in the water until like May.

Sand Hollow is a great idea. We love the St George area and usually go hiking and take the side by side down there. Now maybe it’s a boat destination.
Zackdogg where do you live? It sounds cold.
This winter is going so slow. I drive by the lake everyday and just want to go boating so bad. I wish it would snow more to help pass the time and help with the water levels this Summer.
Crazy... I’m thinking about boating and Snowboarding while all this **** is going on in DV. I live in such a bubble here in Utah and have all these first world problems. Anyways.
Thanks for all the trip ideas. Excited to meet some great people out on the water this year.

Better not go to Sand Hollow, terrible place, really bad.

I am not sure what this year will hold for us, but last year was a dumpster fire most of the year. For the first time in its existence, they shut down Sand Hollow, there was nowhere else to park most Fridays and Saturdays. Sometimes it was closed by 9am. The lake has no coves, and when you get that many people on the water, you cannot even surf in a straight line. COVID had everything to do with that, but I think that there will still be a lot of people doing outdoors activities this summer before they lose interest and decide to go back to whatever they used to do. I think the crowds will be manageable in April, but I think it is going to be terribly congested again by May.

The nearest ramp to Utah at Lake Mead is not Overton, but Echo Bay. It is an awesome place and will be boatable in march without question. It is very open and unoccupied.
                          Be excellent to one another.

I live in Reno, which is about 4500’ elevation. We use lakes on both side of the Sierras. On the west side we see air temps a little higher, a little sooner, but most of our water is snowpack runoff, so we don’t start seeing good water temps, until the air starts hitting close to 100. By the time June hits we’re usually approaching 100 air, and 80s water. Just have to be tough in April and May.
