    New boat decision

I am in the market and looking to pull the trigger on a new boat before the end of year. We Surf, wakeboard and ski. I know people hate the word "crossover" but I am in that position. I am not looking to run a course but do like to ski. The Malibu LSV seems to be the best choice for doing it all but the Tige really has my attention. The Tige is the best looking highest quality boat out right now IMO. Anyone have a new 22 RZX that has skied behind it? The dealer says it's possible with Taps tab down to flatten wake and lift back of boat. I also would like to hear how this boat drives ETC... Any help is appreciated.

Depends on your level of skiing, it can be done but not great. You will need to play around with your line length a bit. With a little ballast in the bow and no people on board, it flattens out around 28MPH. Surfing and wakeboarding are fantastic behind it.

Thank you Mike, Yeah I was thinking ballast in bow and 32mph. Do you run the center Taps plate down? I know it wont be great but some of the larger boats flatten out pretty nice at 30+. I had a 2014 MB F22 and it was horrible even at 36 so Skiing was out.

Right now the best choice for a crossover boat would be the new Malibu VTX. The older one was respectable for skiing however the new one is based on the Response hull vs the wake hull previously. I have been told the 22RZX is ok, though the 20RZX would be the best at all disciplines.

Are you comparing it to an I/O or DD ski boat? I ski at 32 and happy to ski behind it but much prefer our DD. When we purchased our 22v we didn't sell our DD just in case. My wife and young kids don't like to ski behind the 22v as they are spoiled by the DD and ski at slower speeds. I will say the wake at 36 on the 22v is smaller than at 32. Taps plate all the way down. We haven't tried skiing with front ballast.

I think the 22RZX would be one of the better choices in the Tige lineup without going too small. They do advertise it as a crossover but it also has a very respectable surf wave. Especially considering you're skiing at 32 it shook be ok, if you were trying to go 28 not so much.

Comparing to Malibu, you're getting a much better built boat. The never ending computer issues, burring impellers, panels not lining up, etc.

Depending on your climate and dealer inventory why don't you try and get out for a demo.

TAPS at 1 will give you a flat wake, but it's pretty washy and hard. TAPS at 2 cleans it up which is where I've pulled most skiers. It's more of a table than a nice flat DD wake.

My 22RZX will surf and wakeboard circles around a VTX, but that isn't a fair comparison. You're comparing a 22' to a 20' boat, apples to oranges.

We joke about it at the shop and few customers have taken us up on it but for the $ you can find late 80s and early 90s DDs for 10k and less these days depending on condition. We say if you want to ski just buy one and keep it around to ski and have your surf boat for that. Crossover boats tend to do everything okay but nothing well IMO. There is no Swiss Army knife boat.

cousin has a '19 nautty gs22 and loves it. says it performs better than the last 2 'bu's he had(bitched about q/c decreasing in 'bu over the last 5 years).
he's a slalom skier and kids are into boarding. boat slaloms decently, boards at lower speeds for the kids better than the 'bu and surfs good.
                      2012 22ve.. RIP 4/17
                      2014 Z3.. Surf away

@sandm...funny you mention qc dropping off. I chat with a guy on IG that owns a dealership in TN that came from the service side and he dropped Bu/Axis with similar complaints and picked up Fineline. Says they are killing it these days. Wondering if the Correct Craft influence is tickling down

Malibu made their best boats from about 2006-2012. Steady decline since. Fineline quality with centurion since about 2018 has become by far the most improved brand out there.

Wait for the new z23. I had the the 18’ z23 and ski 35-36mph and it was prob the best on the mkt for a boat that size. Think you will be happy. I had a 211 nautique crossover boat and z23 skied just as good and weight 1000lbs more. There will be a hump. The Malibu vtx has better wave but 20 ft boat so trade off. No one has the perfect crossover.

Thank you for all of the responses. I was able to go see the 22 RZX yesterday and was really impressed with the quality and little things that Tige does. The lake near the dealership is closed due to low water but we have some rain coming so hopefully we can get out. I would like to place an order ASAP. If this boat drives nice and has decent waves/wakes it's a done deal.
Dealer says 400 is enough and the 440 is not any better. What do you guys think? Is the 440 worth the $?
