Just look at what MasterCraft has done with the XStar. It has been used from the 90's on maybe at least 4 or 5 boats.

What seems unusual about this is that the boats that get updated regularly without a break in production years. Here is a boat out of production for a few years, then brought back as a midlevel boat, but wait, 'It's the legend in updated form!' I'm still leaning towards marketing failure. The boat will still probably be awesome, just the marketing approach feels weird.Be excellent to one another.

This is crazy...you don't see Chevrolet bringing back the Camaro as a redesign or the Tahoe or 1500 Z71, Malibu or Impala, or Ford bringing back the Bronco or Pontiac bringing back a GTO.
No, wait ...that did happen.
I just can't wait to see it...I love all the hype !!Last edited by Ironrequiem; 12-21-2020, 04:13 PM.

Now that I've looked, I kinda like the new boat. Think they should have started at $99,500 or something so they could promote "starting under 100K" instead of low 100's. Shoot, they're only a few hundred under as it is. I like the seat in the middle that is moveable....or appears to be.

as I looked:
they finally got rid of the cooler in the walkthru. best move ever imo.
dash has a cubby on top that is needed on more boats AND is out of the direct sun. love that feature and not sure why it's not on the r23.
looks like the rear seat back is now back to being a "solid" piece across. I never got the rear seat back on our r23 and last z3 not being flat across the rear. more comfortable if you're not sitting on either side or directly in the middle.
sundeck looks pretty small now that they added the rear transom seats. this will be a love it or hate it change.
more standard ballast by 750lbs. wonder where they stuffed it.
gone are 8ft door clearance that the z3 and r23 had on 14's and 18's.
800lbs heavier but it's drafting the same and storage is increased by almost 50%. this is purely a guess as there are no shots of the boat on a trailer but wonder if they just added to the sides to get the height and left the actual running surface alone. several boat lines have done this over the years and released as "all new".
good lookin boat....2012 22ve.. RIP 4/17
2014 Z3.. Surf away

The boat has an all new running surface so lets get that speculation out of the way. It surfs killer and is beautifully clean on both sides without any weight needing to be shifted around. The biggest performance enhancements IMO are the following...
1. It drives insane in bad water, its just a dream. A rougher ride has always been my knock against the Tige and this is a departure from that.
2. It wakeboards beautifully down to 18 MPH. Crisp and clean side to side.
Given the fact that the new Z is mostly sold out, associating it with the word failure in any respect sounds odd to me but that's the beauty of opinions. Always good to hear the different opinions from the masses.
As many others have stated, MFG have paused production on hit models for redesigns all the time, those most notable have been mentioned above. Tige isnt doing anything different here.
Any redesign takes time, this has been 2 years in the making. If you read back to one of my earlier posts a year or so ago I had asked everyone what they would want to see if a Z was relaunched. That data went right back to Tige.
The Z3 had one of the longest production runs without a running surface change in the industry, it was pretty ahead of its time and developed quite the cult like following. We noticed this even more once the model was discontinued.
Tige is always trying to evolve, every model that gets made after the last is a phase of that evolution and that includes the ATX. This new Z is no different in that regard. I am really proud of the job they did. It wont be for everyone but here is what they did touch on..
1. Its taller and capable of tugging around more weight
2. It still has the trashcan beyond the Drivers seat
3. It will have the 2-1 or the 1.76 with the 575
4. Its heavier
5. The dash is money
6. Ballast size is perfect
7. It has a sliding reversible seat
8. It is a true traditional bow still
9. The helm is significantly further forward vs the old Z
It is going to be a boat that does really well on demos because its such a departure IMO from what Tige has built before. I am pretty excited about it. I have had a couple of customers ask me my thoughts and what I tell everyone is this. If I were buying a boat tomorrow its what I would buy with my own money.
Excited for people to get out in them.
Happy New Year!Germaine Marine

Now that is saying something! Hopefully I find a friend who has one but mostly Malibu around here as the nearest Tige' dealer is a couple hours away.

I am only 3 yrs into my R23 but I'm interested. love all the features and matches a lot of what I like in a tow boat. All that said, I have my "18 R23 dialed and will put my wave in a Pepsi challenge vs any other 23 footer out there. So, bottom line for me: will this surf as well and wave be as killer as my slammed R23 hull?
